Research Scholarships
Title of Funding Opportunity:  Test performance and outcomes in chronic kidney disease
Funding is available for a PhD student with a medical degree and interest in studying chronic kidney disease and other chronic illnesses.  Applicants must have experience in advanced training in Nephrology and be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.  Funding is valued up to $35,329 for one year with the possibility to be renewed up to three years total.

Title of Funding Opportunity: Postgraduate Scholarship in Large-Scale Communication Networks
Three Master-by-Research or PhD scholarships are available for qualified candidates with a background in science or engineering. The project involves development and experimentation with intelligent transport systems and smart grids. Applicants should be well versed in math, telecommunications and/or electrical engineering. Both national and international students may apply; however, funding does not cover any tuition fees payable by international students. Funding is valued at $23,728 per annum (tax exempt) for up to three years plus a top-up scholarship of $7,000 per annum (tax exempt) from the School of Electrical and Information Engineering.

Title of Funding Opportunity: Postgraduate Scholarship in Plate Tectonics/Geodynamics
A PhD scholarship is available for qualified candidates interested in Geosciences and Gondwanaland. Specifically, the student will work with a team to reconstruct the continents in hopes of resolving ongoing controversies surrounding the fit of the continents in Eastern Gondwana and the size of Greater India prior to collision with Eurasia, among other things. Students must have an Honours degree in physics, geophysics or geology and possess good oral and verbal communications skills. Funding is valued at $23,728 per annum for three years.

Title of Funding Opportunity:  Collaborative Research Network for Mental Health and Well-being in Rural Communities
Two PhD scholarships are available at the University of New England and in partnership with the University of Sydney to study mental health and well-being in rural and regional communities. Two specific areas of study are available for research: Sexuality, identity & mental health impacts on well-being and inclusion and also, Biomedical science to support rural mental health.  Applicants must possess an H1 or H2A degree in relevant fields. See application for further details. Funding is valued at $28,000 per annum (tax exempt) for three years.

Title of Funding Opportunity: St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award 2012
An opportunity to attend the 42nd St. Gallen Symposium titled “Leaders of Tomorrow” is available for students at graduate level or higher.  The successful applicant will travel to Switzerland and have the opportunity to discuss this year’s topic, “Facing Risk” and network with decision makers from all over the world.  Funding is provided for travel, board and lodging.
