Gabrielle Lee Postgraduate Scholarship in Health Sciences

A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with a science background to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in the field of biology of ageing; the research involves investigation of the role of Sirtuin pathways in ageing in humans; applicants should have a basic science degree and additional qualifications at a Masters level, and must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens; $25,000pa; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in wake promoting drugs for treatment resistant obstructive sleep apnea
A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD; the project is to investigate the effects of a wake-promoting drug and dietary intervention for patients with sleep apnea; applicants must have a good Honours or Masters degree in a relevant scientific discipline, and be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens; $27,651pa; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Plant Biochemistry
A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in Plant Biochemistry; the project is to define the biosynthetic pathway of chlorophyll f at the genomic and proteomic levels focusing on formation of formyl group in chlorophylls; applicants should have a good honours degree in Biochemistry or Molecular Biology and an interest in the molecular biology and biochemistry of plants; $25,000pa; up to three years.

The Brian M. Kirby Foundation Gift of Sight Initiative Scholarship
A scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in stem cell/developmental neurobiology; applicants should have a First Class Honours in Science;  $8,000pa; up to two years.

The Peter Coates Postgraduate Scholarship in Enthopharmacology
A postgraduate scholarship is now available for a suitable candidate to commence PhD studies in 2012; the project will be to investigate the contribution of ethnic differences to inter-individual variation in drug response; applicants should have a good honours degree in a health sciences related field and be eligible to enrol in a PhD at the University of Sydney; $25,000pa; up to three years.

Postgraduate Scholarship- Health and Safety in Homecare (Youth Services)
A postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in occupational health; to research is to look at OHS risks and hazards in homecare work (youth services); applicants should have an Honours 1 or 2A Degree in a social or health sciences discipline; international students can apply, but the scholarship does not cover any tuition fees payable by international students; $27,222pa; up to three years.

Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) is offering a number of awards tenable at both Australian and overseas universities or institutions for postgraduate study commencing in 2012; the awards facilitate research and training in areas of practical value to the Australian beef, sheepmeat and goatmeat industries; from $20,000pa.
