Research Funding Opportunities:
Discovery early career researcher award (DECRA)
Australian Research Council
This scheme provides funding to support research by early career researchers. Funding is worth up to $125,000 per annum, with a fixed salary component of $80,000 per annum and project costs up to $40,000 per annum, for up to three years full-time. This award is in Australian research income Category 2

National infrastructure grants
National Breast Cancer Foundation
The aim of these grants is to help improve access to the technology, materials and core capabilities required by the Australian breast cancer research community. The grants have a maximum value of $250,000 per annum for up to five years.

Creative fellowships
State Library of Victoria
These support original use of the library collections for new work in all areas of enquiry. Grants are worth $12,500 for three months, $25,000 for six months and $50,000 for 12 months. This award is in Australian research income Category 2.

Research grants
Australian Flora Foundation
Projects should focus on the biology and cultivation of Australian plants. The foundation expects to support between two and four projects with $5,000 to $12,000 each in 2013, with possible extension into 2014.

Australia-Japan Foundation grants
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)
Funding priority will be given to projects that strengthen Australia’s relationship with Japan through people-to-people engagement across a diverse range of sectors. This award is in Australian research income Category 2.

NACADA research grants
National Academic Advising Association
NACADA research support is intended to facilitate research related to academic advising. Up to $5,000 may be awarded to support a single-year award, while multi-year awards are worth up to $5,000 per annum.

Leibniz-DAAD research fellowships
German Academic Exchange Service - Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst
These enable highly qualified foreign postdoctoral investigators to conduct research at Leibniz institutes in Germany. Grants provide a monthly instalment of €1,840 and a monthly subsidy of €58 for insurance costs, over a maximum of 12 months. A two-month German language course may also be funded.

Summer data policy institute fellowship
Association for Institutional Research
The institute is an intensive introduction to National Science Foundation and National Center for Education Statistics datasets and research methodologies using large national data sources. Hotel, meals, and instructional costs are provided for selected fellows. US travel is covered in full and international travel is covered up to $700.

International service in crop science award
Crop Science Society of America
This award honours creativity and innovation in bringing about specific changes in practices, products, and or programs in the crops area at the international level. The award consists of a certificate and $1,000 honorarium.

Young investigator grants
Human Frontier Science Programme
The purpose of these grants is to support novel collaborations that bring biologists together with scientists from other disciplines to focus on problems at the frontiers of the life sciences. Awards are worth up to $450,000 per year for a maximum of three years.

Visiting senior fellowship program
National Gallery of Art
Fellowships are for full time research, and scholars are expected to reside in Washington and to participate in the activities of the centre throughout the fellowship period. Stipends for a two-month fellowship range from $6,000 to $8,000, depending on relocation requirements.

Higher education solutions network
Agency for International Development (USAID)
The overall goal of this programme is to substantially improve the efficacy and impact of USAID’s programmes and policies by harnessing the power of universities and other research institutions as centres of innovation for development. It is anticipated that consortium centres will receive funding of between $4 million and $5m per year and that single institution centres will receive funding of between $1m and $2m per year, over five years.

Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)
The aim of the centre will be to support high-quality research and related activities on tax administration to strengthen the theoretical and empirical understanding of the delivery and design of tax operations and policies.
