The Linkage Infrastructure Equipment and Facilities scheme:
•     encourages institutions to develop collaborative arrangements among themselves, across the higher education sector and with organisations outside the sector, in order to develop research infrastructure;
•     supports large-scale cooperative initiatives involving two or more institutions, thereby allowing expensive facilities to be shared;
•     enhances support for areas of research strength; and
•     ensures that researchers in fields of recognised research potential have access to the support necessary for development.

NHMRC Progress Reports
Progress reports for NHMRC Grants that were current in 2011 (but not in the final year) are due to the NHMRC by 31 March 2012. Please submit a progress report if you are the Chief Investigator A on the following grant types:

  *   CRE grants
  *   Development Grants
  *   Partnership project Grants
  *   Program Grants
  *   Project Grants (including European Union Projects)
  *   Strategic Awards (including Targeted Calls for Research and NHMRC EU Collaborative Research Grants)

If you applied for a variation to carry forward funds or extend the duration of your grant into 2012 you are also required to submit a progress report.
Please forward your report to the Monitoring and Compliance Team no later than Friday 23 March 2012. Reports must be submitted by email to: research.grants at sydney.edu.au<mailto:research.grants at sydney.edu.au>

Please note reports must be signed by the Chief Investigator A (on behalf of all investigators) and the Institution’s Responsible Officer.

The institution’s responsible officer (Section C) is Yamini Sandiran. Signature will be arranged by the Monitoring and Compliance Team.

These grants offer funding for ovarian cancer research projects in the areas of early detection, aetiology, cancer biology and genetics and novel therapeutics.

Action on Hearing Loss

These support a range of small scale activities such as laboratory visits, workshops and pilot experiments which will strengthen hearing research. Grants are worth up to £10,000.

Biomarker Discovery/Validation for Staging and Assessment of T1D - Request for Expressions of Interest

JDRF Research

Call for expressions of interest closing 6 March.  JDRF has made a commitment to play a pioneering role in the discovery and validation of biomarkers

in Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Identification and validation of new biomarkers [or standardization of existing biomarkers] is critical for the development of new T1D therapeutics and for appropriate staging of the disease.

AFR postdoctoral grants

National Research Fund Luxembourg

The programme has no thematic limitations and is open to all researchers, regardless of their nationality, desirous to engage into research training in Luxembourg or abroad. The maximum level of funding is €115,462 over two years. supports PhD and postdoctoral research training projects in Luxembourg and abroad, up to 4 years for PhDs and up to 2 years for postdocs.

US-Australia solar energy collaboration open funding round

Australian Solar Institute

Funding may be awarded to research and development projects in photovoltaic and concentrating solar power technologies that will reduce the cost of solar energy. The maximum level of funding for this round is $5 million.

European Commission Framework Programme 7: Cooperation

Projects should develop demonstrations in the areas of renewable energy generation, renewable fuel production and zero emission solutions. The indicative overall budget for this project is €81 million.

American Gastroenterological Association

These grants fund travel expenses for investigators who reside outside of North America to attend Digestive Disease Week. Two awards of $500 each will be awarded.

Hermon Slade Foundation

The foundation awards grants to support research within its fields of activity: improved systems of managing land, water, plants and animals in ways which will enhance the productivity and quality of food, fisheries, plants and forests while conserving the natural environment. International Tropical Timber Organization

Queensland-Smithsonian fellowships

Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation

These support visits by Queenslanders to the Smithsonian institution in the US to undertake a project that will facilitate the interchange of knowledge and skills between Queensland and the Smithsonian. The maximum value of a fellowship is $30,000. This award is in Australian research income Category 2.

Patterson memorial grant

Society of Vertebrate Palaeontology

The purpose of this award is to support student field work in vertebrate palaeontology. In 2011, a grant of $2,700 will be awarded.

CAAT grants program

Johns Hopkins University
