NHMRC funding for Hendra-related research - call for applications
As you may know, the NSW, Queensland and Commonwealth Governments have established a Hendra Virus Taskforce and have allocated some funding to support research into Hendra Virus and related issues. Please see information from the NHMRC on a call for funding applications.
National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) opened its Hendra Virus Urgent Call for Research on Wednesday November 9, 2011.
This call for research has been expanded to include the family of Henipaviruses. The aims of the research are to better understand the biology, and to develop better management of and treatments for humans affected by Henipaviruses.

Call for the provision of professional services for the purpose of developing a community profile and place plan for the Rhodes Peninsula.
The City of Canada Bay Council is seeking to engage a suitably experienced consultant to assist Council in taking a place based approach to the delivery of community development activities within the Rhodes Peninsula. The place plan will draw together the social and physical elements to create informed planning in various areas. Brocher Foundation

These enable researchers to stay at the centre for one to six months to start or complete a research project on ethical, legal and social implications of recent medical research and new medical technologies. Eligible disciplines include: bioethics, health anthropology, health economics, health governance, health law, health philosophy, health psychology, health sociology, medical ethics, history of medicine. Successful applicants receive accommodation, an office, food and travel costs to Geneva.

These support projects in key areas conducted by charitable or non-profit organisations in Australia. Grants are generally worth between $10,000 and $100,000 for a one-year period. The average amount for a grant in 2011 was $60,000, and the maximum an organisation can request is $200,000.

Senior travel bursary

Mineralogical Society

A fund totalling £2,000 is available each year for the purpose of supporting research by qualified researchers of any age through their attendance at conferences, encouraging international collaboration, and funding essential fieldwork. Ordinarily, bursaries will be limited to a maximum of £500 or 50 per cent of the total cost of a visit, whichever is smaller.
