Applications are sought within the following 2 categories of funding: * $75,000 - $200,000 (excl. GST) for one item of equipment or a complete system or facility. It is expected that up to 3 grants will be offered in this category. If the item is valued at more than $200,000 the application will still be considered but only $200,000 will be provided; * $10,000 - $74,999 (excl. GST) for one item of equipment or a complete system or facility. It is expected that up to 10 grants will be offered in this category. Eligibility: The Chief Investigator for a NHMRC application that did not gain funding must complete an application form. These grants provide seed money for new projects that have the potential to lead to subsequent larger investigations. Distinguished Investigator Grants For up to US$100,000 over two years are awarded to investigators at the level of associate professor or higher with an established record of research and publication on suicide. Standard Research Grants For up to US$75,000 over two years are awarded to individual investigators at any level. Young Investigator Grants For up to US$85,000 over two years are awarded to investigators at the level of assistant professor or lower. In addition to a maximum of $75,000 for the investigator's research, these grants provide an additional $10,000 ($5,000 per year) for an established suicide researcher who will mentor the Young Investigator. Eligibility: Investigators from all academic disciplines are eligible to apply, and both basic science and applied research projects will be considered, providing the study has an essential focus on suicide or suicide prevention. This award offers sustained support for pioneering basic or clinical research aimed at fulfilling the goals of JDRF-finding a cure for type 1 diabetes or its complications. The Scholar Award is meant to support investigators who intend to pursue new research directions that are not funded from other sources. RESEARCH GRANTS 12 Royal Geographical Society- The Ralph Brown Expedition Award Introduction: The Ralph Brown Expedition Award is offered to the leader of an expedition involving the study of inland or coastal wetlands, rivers or shallow (less than 200m) marine environments. The project should be of value to the host country and, where possible, to the local community. The award has been created in memory of the late Ralph Brown, a former world jet boat champion, who was a passionate participant in many expeditions in watery environments around the world. Eligibility: Applicants must be fellows or members of the Society. The grant is open to applicants from any nation. Amount Awarded: The grant is a single annual award worth ?15,000.
