Group of Eight (Go8)- Australia-Germany Joint Research Co-operation Scheme
The scheme is a joint initiative of the Group of Eight <http://www.go8.edu.au> (Go8) universities and the German Academic Exchange Service <http://www.daad.de> (DAAD). The scheme aims to:
* foster research collaboration of the highest quality between Australian researchers from Go8 universities and German researchers.
* result in research outcomes and the exchange of skills and knowledge of mutual benefit to Australia and Germany.
Eligibility: Exchange participants must either be employed as academic staff members in a teaching and research or research only role at a Go8 university, or a PhD student involved in the research project submitted by an eligible staff member.
Application and Selection Process: One signed application must be submitted to Annette McLaren in the Research Office no later than: 18th August 2008 with an electronic version of the application also submitted by email.

The Australian Academy of the Humanities- Visiting Scholar Programmes
In order to encourage scholarly contact with scholars from both Russia and Indonesia/South-East Asia, and to assist scholars from those countries obtain access to research materials held in Australia, the Australian Academy of the Humanities initiated the Visiting Scholar Programmes. The Academy requires that the Australian host scholars deal directly with the foreign visitors in acquitting funds provided. The funds may be used for any form of assistance which the Australian host sees as vital to the visit such as international/domestic air or other travel costs, accommodation, conference fees, and daily allowances.

Academy of Social Sciences in Australia- Workshop Program 2009-2010
The purpose of the Workshop Program is to advance knowledge through in-depth discussion, and to promote its application by the dissemination of workshop outcomes through publication. It is expected that the ideas and research discussed at the workshop will be rigorously debated and that they are open to scrutiny by scholars within the social sciences and others.
* Numbers are limited to around 15 to 20 participants to allow for meaningful exchange of ideas and extensive in-depth debate.
* The theme, quality and range of participants, and expected outcomes determine the Academy's support which has a maximum of $7,500.

Gambling Research Australia- Gambling: Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities - Grants
Introduction: The theme of Gambling and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Populations is a broad topic that encompasses several elements. The GRA does not seek recommendations regarding government policy. It seeks the development of research which will assist its members formulate policy recommendations and to set policy in a significant way.
Key topics which are considered to be of most use to the GRA within this topic:
* Culturally appropriate interventions for CALD communities.
* Gambling in refugee populations or in communities with refugee-like experiences.
* Acculturation and gambling.
* International students and gambling
* The nature of gambling and associated risks across different CALD communities.
Eligibility: Applicants are required to specify what new information or benefit jurisdictions will receive from funding the research.

The Australian Academy of the Humanities- Swedish Exchange Program
Introduction: The Australian Academy of the Humanities and the Swedish Royal Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities have an Exchange Agreement, which provides for one established Australian scholar per year, who is able to cover travel to Europe independently, and who wishes to do research in Sweden, to visit for a maximum of one month.
Eligibility: The Award is open to all established Australian scholars working in a discipline under the auspices of the Academy of the Humanities. A reciprocal arrangement covers the cost of one Swedish scholar to visit Australia per year.
Amount Awarded: Up to the sum of 40,000SEK.
Indirect Cost Recovery: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney indirect costs.

Academy of Social Sciences in Australia- Australia-China Exchange in the Social Sciences
Introduction: The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia supports an exchange program for research scholars in the social sciences, who are Australian citizens, are eligible to apply to participate in this program. The applicant should be a junior faculty member (including those who have recently completed their doctorate). The aims of the program include collaboration between Australian and Chinese scholars, the opportunity for access to research and research materials not easily accessible outside the countries concerned, and the development of networks of scholars with related interests both within and between the two countries.

Academy of Social Sciences in Australia- Exchange Program-Netherlands
Introduction: The Exchange Program between the Australian Academy of the Social Sciences and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. The Joint Academies facilitate visits by scholars to specific research institutes or conferences in the Netherlands, preferably for periods of one or two weeks. The scholar is responsible for the cost of the international airfare to the Netherlands, but the Royal Netherlands Academy will meet the cost of living and approved internal travel during the period of stay. Applicants will need to propose a program for the approval of the host Academy.

Glaucoma Research Foundation- The Shaffer Fund for Innovative Glaucoma Research: Preliminary Proposals
Introduction: The Glaucoma Research Foundation (GRF) supports new, novel and high impact clinical, epidemiological and laboratory research. Successful projects target one or more of GRF's Strategic Research Goals, with an emphasis on collaborative pilot projects across disciplines. The GRF's Strategic Research Goals:
* Protect and restore the optic nerve.
* Accurately detect glaucoma and monitor its progression.
* Find the genes that cause glaucoma.
* Understand intraocular pressure and develop better treatments.
* Determine the risk factors for glaucoma damage using systematic outcomes data.
Eligibility: Investigators must possess a graduate or post-doctoral degree to apply for support. We encourage interdisciplinary teams and collaborations that may lead to new glaucoma treatments.
Amount Awarded: Shaffer Grants are typically awarded in the range of US$15,000 to $40,000 and are awarded for one year.

American Academy of Implant Dentistry: Research Foundation- Research Grants
Introduction: The American Academy of Implant Dentistry Research Foundation (AAIDRF) Small Grants Program is intended to provide limited support for meritorious dental implant research projects which include, but are not limited to, the following purposes:
* To conduct research which determines the feasibility of a larger research project. This may be described as the conduct of pilot studies of venture research.
* To develop and test new techniques and procedures.
* To carry out a small clinical or animal research project.
* To analyse existing data.
Eligibility: Investigators from any scientific discipline and at any stage of their career may apply for a Small Grant.
Amount Awarded: Applicants may request up to US$10,000 (total costs) for the entire budget to fund the project for up to a two-year grant period.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Australia- Travel Awards
Introduction: The Macquarie Group Foundation Diabetes Research Innovation Partnership aims to advance the level and impact of type 1 diabetes research in Australia.
Young Scientist
JDRF invites applications from young researchers for grants of up to $2,500 to allow travel to research institutions or scientific meetings, for the purpose of furthering the researcher's expertise in the study of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents residing in Australia.
Allied Health and Nursing
The Allied Health and Nursing Travel Grants are funded by the Macquarie Group Foundation as part of this partnership. JDRF invites applications from young allied health professionals for grants of up to $2,000 to allow travel for the purpose of presenting their research relevant to type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents residing in Australia.

2008 Young Tall Poppy Science Awards
The Young Tall Poppy Science Awards recognises the achievements of outstanding young researchers in the sciences including physical, biomedical, applied sciences, engineering and technology. The Young Tall Poppy Science Awards recognise the achievements of younger researchers (up to 40 years of age).
* The awards in 2008 are open to residents of New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and South Australia working in all fields of science, including the biomedical, physical and applied sciences.
* Nominees should be either postgraduates who are close to completing, or have completed, a doctoral degree within the past 10 years or working in industry and demonstrating an equally high level of research achievement.

The Matsumae International Foundation- 2009 Fellowships
Introduction: The Fund of the Matsumae International Foundation is based on donations from many Japanese people who have responded with goodwill to Dr. Shigeyoshi Matsumae's call. The fellowship is focused on furthering such fields of study as natural science, engineering and medicine. Applicants are free to select host institutions in which to carry out their research.

The International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICE WaRM)- International Visits and Exchanges Programme
Introduction: The International Visits and Exchanges Programme provides an opportunity to industry, vocational education and training and the tertiary education sector and research communities for increased engagement at an international level in the area of water resources management. It is available for inbound (to Australia) and outbound (from Australia) international visits by individuals and exchanges between two candidates. The programme aims to build ICE WaRM's international profile by promoting to establish / strengthen relationships between ICE WaRM and organisations involved in water resources management throughout the world.
Eligibility: Persons from academia and industry within the field of water resources management are eligible to apply.
Amount Awarded: Each individual candidate for a visit or exchange will be eligible for funds to the maximum value of AUD$10,000.
