Funding to advance University Infrastructure
The Minister for Education, Julia Gillard and Minister for Innovation,
Senator Kim Carr today announced the opening the 2009 round of the
higher education infrastructure investment fund. The Education
Investment Fund (EIF) expands and broadens the Higher Education
Endowment Fund (HEEF). The 2009 funding round will focus on higher
education institutions with $304 million available for new research
facilities or capital expenditure in Australia's universities.

Reminder: Learning Solutions- Development program for new and emerging
Chief Investigators
In second semester Learning Solutions and the Research Office will
launch an exciting new development program for new and emerging chief
investigators (The Future Research Leaders Program). This is a joint
collaboration with other Group of Eight universities culminating in the
development of nine purpose-built learning modules designed specifically
for Go8 researchers.

The University of Edinburgh: The Institute for Advanced Studies in the
Humanities- Postdoctoral Bursaries 2009
Applications are invited for postdoctoral bursaries from candidates in
any area of the Humanities and Social Sciences, whose work falls within
the scope of one of the Institute for Advanced Studies' current Research
Themes <http://www.iash.ed.ac.uk/themes.html> or across disciplinary
boundaries in the Humanities. The bursaries are tenable for Fellowships
of three to nine months, in the period 1st September 2008 - 31st August
2009.

The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation (HFG)- Research Grants in the
Natural and Social Sciences and the Humanities
Introduction: The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation (HFG) welcomes
proposals from any of the natural and social sciences and the humanities
that promise to increase understanding of the causes, manifestations,
and control of violence, aggression, and dominance. Particular
questions that interest HFG concern violence, aggression, and dominance
in relation to social change, the socialization of children, intergroup
conflict, interstate warfare, crime, family relationships, and
investigations of the control of aggression and violence. Priority will
also be given to areas and methodologies not receiving adequate
attention and support from other funding sources.
Eligibility: HFG awards research grants to individuals for individual
projects and does not award grants to institutions for institutional
programs.
Amount Awarded: Awards in the range of US$15,000 to $30,000 a year for
periods of one or two years.
Indirect Cost Recovery: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney
indirect costs.

National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC): Request for Tender
for the Provision of- Australian Health and Medical Research Workforce
Demographic Analysis: RFT2008/52
NHMRC is seeking to engage a consultant to prepare a demographic report
on the Health and Medical Research (HMR) workforce in Australia. The
report will identify trends and factors impacting on the structure and
needs of the research workforce. It will provide guidance and inform
future NHMRC policy decisions to grow the HMR workforce in Australia and
to effectively support world class research.

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia- Research Program
Introduction: The PCFA recognizes that current strategies for diagnosis
and treatment of prostate cancer are inadequate. The PCFA is especially
seeking applications in its priority areas for funding including
projects seeking to discover the genetic and cellular factors which
initiate and/or perpetuate prostate cancer and, develop and clinically
validate new, non-invasive tests to detect prostate cancer, and/or to
determine whether a patient's cancer is surgically curable.
PCFA Grant Categories for 2008:
1. Young Investigator Grants: To support young scientists beginning
a career in prostate cancer research.
2. Concept Grants: For senior scientists not currently working in
prostate cancer who have an innovative proposals and are seeking startup
funding.
3. Project Grants: For general proposals for prostate cancer
research, including support for innovative clinical trials.
4. Equipment Grants: For significant items of equipment needed to
progress ongoing prostate cancer research.
Indirect Cost Recovery: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney

Introduction: The Objectives of the Mental Health Fund is to provide
financial support for research projects conducted in Australia, which
have the potential to enhance the health of the community; to stimulate
research activities within Australia by facilitating communication
between participants in specified fields and to support specific
