Fulbright Scholarships for study or research in the United States in 2009
Fulbright Scholarships for Australian Citizens available in 2008 include the following types of scholarships:
* Senior Scholars - up to A$30,000
For academics (at Associate Professor or Professor level) to undertake research or teaching at U.S. institutions. This scholarship supports a 4-6 month program.
* Postdoctoral - up to A$30,000
For researchers who have completed their PhD in the last 5 years to undertake postdoctoral research in the U.S. This scholarship supports a 3-12 month program.
Fulbright Applications for 2008 will open on 1st June 2007 and close 31st August 2007.

Development Program for Biomedical Early Career Researchers
This program for Biomedical Researchers aims to give participants support in career planning, networking and the development of research capacities. The program is for researchers who are 1 - 10 years postdoctoral. It consists of 7 half day sessions and a structured mentor program. Demand for this course is always high so attendees must commit to attending all sessions.

NSW Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing- Request for Proposal: Pseudo-Underaqe Gamblinq Research Proiect
The NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing is seeking proposals to undertake a research project to evaluate the occurrence of patron identification (lD) checks by staff in various gambling venues. The principal focus will be to examine how these staff interact with people who appear to be under the age of eighteen and who seek to engage in gambling. A secondary focus will be to determine whether, or to what extent, persons who appear underage are able to enter, and to purchase liquor at, gambling venues. A total funding budget of up to $150,000 (including GST) is available.

UPDATE: The Australian Research Council and Australian Bureau of Statistics: Joint road-show to Higher Education Institutions: Hosted by the University of Sydney
The Australian Research Council (ARC) and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will be providing an information session regarding Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative and the recently released Australian and New Zealand Standard Research Classification (ANZSRC).
It is expected that participants will largely be directors and staff of Research Offices who will be using the classification for funding and data collection purposes.
The presentation will outline the proposed approach to ERA, and discuss the ERA Consultation Paper, released 4 June 08.
The ARC will also discuss the upcoming ranked outlets consultation process.
The information session is also intended to raise awareness of the 2008 Australian and New Zealand Standard Research Classification. The presentation will discuss the new classification and how it differs from the 1998 version and concordances between the old and new classification.

Fellowships are not awarded to support current postgraduate studies. The Fellowship can be granted to international applicants provided their research focus is the National Archives of Australia collection.

Title of Funding Opportunity: Social Sciences Collaborative Research Projects

Introduction: In April 2002, the Academy of the Social Sciences and the French Embassy in Australia agreed on a strategy to form stronger research relationships between scholars in the two countries. One expression of this agreement is to provide a funded program to initiate and/or enhance joint research activity through an annual joint call for proposals.
Special attention will be paid to projects of interest to both French and Australian scholars and to those relevant to Pacific Island studies where research into matters surrounding indigenous and non-indigenous contact is topical and important. The funding is available to support visits from cooperating scholars travelling to Australia or to France (including French overseas territories).
Eligibility: French and Australian researchers and experts in public and private sectors
Amount Awarded: The average grant awarded is AU$4,000 per application. The maximum awarded has been AU$5,000.

Introduction: The aim of the Program Grants scheme is to provide support for teams of high calibre researchers to pursue broadly based collaborative research activities. Introduction: Grants are typically for short-term projects with well defined aims that can be achieved within a 12 month period. Title of Funding Opportunity: The Leakey Foundation- General Research Grants

Introduction: The Leakey Foundation was formed to further research into human origins. Recent priorities include research into the environment, archaeology, and human palaeontology; into the behaviour, morphology, and ecology of the great apes and other primate species; and into the behavioural ecology of contemporary hunter-gatherers. Other areas of study are rarely considered. Priority for funding is given to the exploratory phases of promising new research projects that meet the stated purpose of the Foundation. The relevance of the project to understanding human origins must be explicit throughout your application.
Eligibility: Advanced doctoral students as well as established scientists are eligible for general research grants.
Amount Awarded: The limit of funding for a single proposal submitted by a post-doctoral applicant or a senior scientist is US$22,000.
