Go8 Germany Joint Research Co-operation Scheme

This scheme is a joint initiative of the Go8 and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Germany's national agency for the support of international academic co-operation.

The scheme aims to:

*      foster research collaboration of the highest quality between Australian researchers from Go8 universities and German researchers.

*      result in research outcomes and the exchange of skills and knowledge of mutual benefit to Australia and Germany. 

Exchange participants must either be employed as academic staff members in a teaching and research or research only role at a Go8 university, or a PhD student involved in the research project submitted by and eligible staff member.

NOTE: the following USyd specific requirements not listed on the G08 website above:

*      Eligibility for this scheme at USyd is limited to early career researchers within 5 years of the award of their PhD (ie. awarded no earlier than 1 July 2003) or no more than 5 years research experience as at 1 July 2008

*      Applicants must obtain endorsement from their Head of School (page 6 of the application).

Australian Academy of the Humanities; Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the British Academy- British Special Joint Project Funding Scheme

 

Introduction: The Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and the British Academy have launched a new scheme for the support of joint projects between Australian and British scholars in the humanities and social sciences disciplines; projects are expected to be of one year's duration. Funding is not intended to cover major research expenses.

Eligibility: The principal applicant on the Australian side should be normally resident in Australia.  Other scholars associated with the project will normally be expected to be of postdoctoral status. 

Amount Awarded:  One award (of up to £8,000) or two awards (of up to £4,000 per project) will be available each year, to cover travel and maintenance expenses.

Indirect Cost Recovery: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney indirect costs.

Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA) & Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)

 

Introduction: ASSA and ICSSR have signed an exchange agreement for research scholars in the social sciences, who are Australian citizens.  The aims of the program include collaboration between Australian and Indian scholars, the opportunity for access to research and research materials not easily accessible outside the countries concerned and the development of networks of scholars with related interests, both within and between the two countries.  The Academy is responsible for international excursion fares to the capital city of the host country and the host provides local transport, meals and accommodation as outlined in the Exchange Agreement.

APEX Foundation for Research into Intellectual Disability Ltd 

 

Introduction: The Apex Foundation for Research into Intellectual Disability Limited invites applications from individuals or research teams for grants in support of new or existing research projects.  These grants may be awarded to workers in any discipline (medicine, education, epidemiology, psychology, biology, sociology, etc) where the research is concerned with the causes, diagnosis, prevention or treatment of intellectual disability and allied conditions. Where all other factors are equal, however, preference will be given to supporting research which relates to causes and/or prevention of these conditions.

The Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute (APHCRI) - Stream Thirteen: Drivers of Successful Primary Health Care

 

Introduction: The Institute is now seeking participation in Stream Thirteen which will synthesise the evidence and develop options to improve Australia's primary health care service delivery through exploring the most effective and cost effective drivers of successful primary care.  The Research Advisory Board has determined the following 4 topic areas to be addressed within Stream Thirteen: 

*      Quality of primary health care; 

*      Access to primary health care (note: research into problems of rural/remote access are not sought in this stream); 

*      Linkages within primary care sub-sectors and between primary care and other sectors; and 

*      Knowledgeable, skilled and motivated patients. 

The Institute is interested in drivers of successful provision of primary health care in a clinical environment or a health care delivery setting (encompassing all clinical primary health care, including nursing, dental and allied health care as well as medical care).

Eligibility: To participate in Stream Thirteen Spokes will comprise between two and four Chief Investigators supported by research assistants.  

Amount Awarded: The Research Advisory Board has determined that each Stream Thirteen spoke will receive a fixed sum of $250,000 over one year.

The Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute (APHCRI) - Stream Eleven: International Visiting Fellowships   

 

Introduction: International Visiting Fellowships allow Australia's primary health care sector to benefit from the expertise of internationally acclaimed academics. Host institutions will contribute to the cost of the program in order to encourage true partnership through co-contribution.  Travel to Canberra by the International Visiting Fellow is mandatory, and will include a public presentation at the ANU.  This research stream allows groups (not limited to previous or existing Spokes) to bid for funds, not exceeding $20,000, to support the travel and related costs of bringing international primary health care experts to Australia.  

Indirect Cost Recovery: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney indirect costs.

Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research- The Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF)   

 

Introduction: The AISRF supports Australian researchers, from both the public and private sectors, to collaborate with Indian partners on leading edge science and technology in order to contribute to Australia's economic, social and environmental wellbeing. The AISRF provides funding support for: 

*      Australian researchers to participate in strategically focussed, leading edge, scientific research and technology collaborations with India (through the Indo-Australian S&T Fund and the Indo-Australian Biotechnology Fund); and 

*      Targeted allocations to benefit the Australian research community. 

Eligibility: Australian scientists from both the public and private sectors wishing to collaborate with international partners from selected countries other than India are able to apply for funding under the International Science Linkages Program.   

Amount Awarded: Available funding for AISRF in 2008-09 is $6,500,000.  The Indian Government is committed to providing matching funding for collaborative activities between Australia and India.
