From research at usyd.edu.au Wed Apr 2 17:21:39 2008 From: research at usyd.edu.au (Research Grants) Date: Wed Apr 2 17:21:43 2008 Subject: [Usyd-research-announce] LINKAGE PROJECTS FOR FUNDING COMMENCING IN 2009 Message-ID: <2468A5C7FA7C7443B8F29B707EA374CEF3304E@MAIL1.mcs.usyd.edu.au> On the 26 March 2008, Senator Kim Carr announced a number of enhancements to ARC funding schemes, including the promotion of international engagement in collaborative research. The media release is available at: http://www.arc.gov.au/media/releases/media_26March08.htm The ARC is currently exploring the opportunity to implement significant changes to the Linkage Projects scheme to take effect for applications in the current round. These changes include: 1. Permitting the use of ARC funds for international travel for PIs; 2. Removing the citizenship/residency requirements for APAI and APAI-IT students; 3. Making provision so preference may be given to award APDIs to candidates who have the potential to enhance international collaboration. Re 2 above, this provides an excellent opportunity to source stipend funding for high quality international research students. At USyd we will use existing ranking and selection processes for international research scholarships (EIPRS/USydIS) including H1E eligibility requirements. Under USydIS, fee waivers for eligible students are available with approval of the CFO/DVCR and the Dean of the relevant Faculty. Advertising will still be required (normally via website) unless students are named in the application (and they meet eligibility criteria). This opportunity is open to all suitably qualified international students but is perhaps most accessible to international students already here doing Hons or who have recently finished. The ARC is expecting to shortly release an updated version of the Linkage Projects funding rules for funding commencing in 2009 (which will incorporate relevant changes), along with the Linkage Projects application form in GAMS and associated documentation. We will release USyd strategic advice and instructions shortly after the release of the ARC rules. The ARC expects that the closing time for submission of proposals in round 1 will be extended until 5:00pm (AEST) 23rd May 2008. The internal closing date at USYD will now be 28th APRIL 2008. The changes will take effect only for current and future funding rounds. Please contact Annette McLaren on x14153 if you need any further info. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We are interested in projects which can demonstrate improved life skills attributed to a focus on literacy. Innovative projects may focus on three areas, thus providing a framework for applicants to assess their ideas for potential projects: Developing and/or trialling something new Involves developing or introducing a product or service that is completely new for a client group or groups. It will involve the initiation, development and trialling of an idea from the beginning. Developing a collaborative process Collaboration between individuals, agencies, community and industry groups in the field of adult literacy can be a source of an innovative project. Collaboration can involve the use of representative steering committees, working parties etc Customising a product or process. Customising a product or process involves the adaptation of an existing product or process in the field of adult literacy to meet the needs of a particular client group. The adaptation of the product or service will require additional resources and the outcome will be a product or service that is demonstrably different.
