Academy of Humanities- Publications Subsidies Scheme
Introduction: The Academy is delighted to announce that, due to an increase in funding in the Federal Budget, that its Publications Subsidy Scheme is reinstated effective immediately. The Academy understands the importance of its support to the project of bringing high quality Australian humanities research into print, and appreciates the disappointment that has been caused by the suspension of the Scheme. One of the aims of the Australian Academy of the Humanities is to advance knowledge of the Humanities by encouraging and supporting scholarship, and the pursuit of excellence, in the broad-ranging fields of the Humanities.
Eligibility: The scheme is designed to assist Humanities scholars based in Australia. Both independent scholars and those working within an institution are eligible for the scheme.
Amount Awarded: Financial support of up to $3,000 for the publication of scholarly works of high quality in the Humanities.
Overheads: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney overhead charges.

National Library of Australia- National Folk Fellowship
Introduction: The annual National Folk Fellowship is offered jointly by the National Library of Australia and the National Folk Festival. The Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to research original folklore material from archival collections held in the National Library. The Fellowship offers one four week residency at the National Library of Australia in Canberra, leading to a guaranteed performance at the Easter National Folk Festival. The Fellowship is normally undertaken 3 to 6 months before the Folk Festival to allow time to develop performance outcomes.
Eligibility: The Fellowship is open to established and emerging performers across music, dance and spoken word who can demonstrate a standard of artistry required for a featured performance at the National Folk Festival; a project vision that highlights the value of original source materials and the ability to undertake collections-based research.

NSW Health Drug and Alcohol Program- Research Grants Year 2007-2008: Expressions of Interest
Introduction: The NSW Health Drug and Alcohol Research Grants Program are administered through the Mental Health and Drug & Alcohol Office. Each year a number of research grants are allocated to continue to contribute towards evidence based practice drug and alcohol services and programs in NSW. Applicants must clearly state under which 'category' their application is to be assessed:
* Workforce
* Alcohol Interventions
* Psychostimulants (evaluation, withdrawal, mental health)
* Other Clinical Programs
Applicants must clearly indicate which 'type' of grant they are applying for. There are two types of applications in 2007-2008:
* Clinician Conducted Research Grant (CCRG)
* Research Grant (RG)
Please contact Chris Robinson in the Research Office for a copy of the guidelines and application form on the details below.
Eligibility: The research must be based on NSW populations, and a chief or principal investigator must be based on NSW.
Amount Awarded: A total amount of approximately $500,000 will be awarded in 2007-2008. There is no set amount on the funding specified for each priority area.

Cure Cancer Australia- Project Grants 2008
Introduction: Cure Cancer Australia aims to be Australia's leading independent foundation for cancer research. We fund the critical early work of brilliant investigators searching for cures for cancers. Cure Cancer Australia Foundation invites applications for project grants for one year in the field of research and clinical investigations into malignant disease. Funding will be available for work commencing on January 1, 2008. Any person in NSW with scientific training who has a formal attachment to a university or other scientific research institution and wishes to undertake research into any aspect of cancer using scientific methods may apply.
Eligibility: The Foundation is keen to support young post-doctoral researchers (less than 5 years post-doctoral at the time of application)
Amount Awarded: Applications will be considered for funding of research personnel and consumables up to $75,000.

Retina Australia- Research Grants 2008
Introduction: Retina Australia invites applications for funding of high quality scientific/medical research relevant to causes, treatments, prevention and cure of retinitis pigmentosa and other inherited and age-related retinal dystrophies. Research into diabetic retinopathy will no be funded as it is expected that funds for such research will be available from organizations concerned with diabetes.

Amount Awarded: Grant will not normally exceed $40,000 in any one year.

Cancer Institute NSW- Clinical Fellowship Program 2008
Introduction: The purpose of the Cancer Institute NSW Clinical Cancer Fellowship Program 2008 is to provide an opportunity for Senior Cancer
Clinicians and administering institutions, which identify a key area of need in an oncology related discipline, to identify or recruit a Fellow to further support the delivery of cancer services and the development of clinical practice in NSW. The
Program is strategically designed to provide a year where newly qualified oncology specialists can enhance their clinical practice and expertise through further training and research to contribute to improved patient outcomes in NSW.
Eligibility: Eligible Fellows include newly qualified oncology specialists, including surgical disciplines relevant to oncology, haematology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, palliative care, cancer genetics, radiology, anatomical pathology and psychiatry.

Cancer Institute NSW- Travel Grants
Introduction: As part of our commitment to the ongoing professional development of nurses, trainee medical staff, allied health and other health professionals working in cancer, the Cancer Institute NSW will continue to fund Travel Grants in 2007. Cancer health professionals working in the area of cancer services play a vital role in the coordination of care of patients during and following their treatment. Professional development is considered crucial to maintaining a skilled and knowledgeable workforce.

Land & Water Australia- Innovative Research Proposals in Natural Resource Management
Introduction: Land & Water Australia is seeking highly innovative R&D projects targeting the sustainable use and management of Australia's natural resources. This Call includes the biophysical, economic and social dimensions of climate, water, vegetation, biodiversity and sustainable production systems. Never before has Australia so much needed new and innovative ideas and technologies to tackle environmental issues facing the country and for developing sustainable production landscapes.

L'Oréal Australia- For Women in Science Fellowships
Introduction: Nominations for the L'Oréal Australia For Women in Science Fellowships are now open. Applicants must be associated with an Australian-based academic or research institution, and must be intending to continue their research in Australia for the next 12 months. The Fellowships are intended to help finance the scientific research of the Fellows. The Fellowship funds can, for example, be used for equipment, travel and child care costs. Six months after receiving their Fellowships, recipients are expected to submit a status report on their research projects and the value of the Fellowship.
Eligibility: Application is open to doctoral or post doctoral candidates (within 5 years of completing a PhD); Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
Amount Awarded: Three AU$20,000 fellowships will be awarded.
