World Community Grid- Research Proposals
The World Community Grid invites public and not-for-profit organizations
to apply to use its powerful grid technology at no cost for projects
that benefit humanity. Grid technology enables researchers to access
tremendous amounts of power, exceeding that of several supercomputers,
to run complex computations and to accelerate the pace of their
research. Research results must be made available to the global
research community and will be made available on World Community Grid's
web site.
Research We Support
World Community Grid supports research that is:
* Focused on solving problems to benefit humanity;
* Conducted by public or non-profit organizations;
* Contributed to the public domain; and
* Accelerated by grid computing technology.
Research projects that benefit from grid technology are those that
perform computations that require millions of computer processing units
(CPUs) and that can be divided into smaller independent computations.

Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowships enable postgraduate
students and postdoctoral fellows from Australia to undertake four to
six months research in participating Asia-Pacific countries.
Endeavour Language Teacher Fellowships is an initiative of the
Australian Government to support Australian language teachers to improve
their language proficiency and cultural knowledge through intensive,
short-term, language and culture study programmes.
* Please note it is recommended that all language testing be

Cure for Life Foundation- Grants for Research into Brain Tumours
Introduction: The Cure For Life Foundation was established to further
the quality of medical knowledge and technical resources available to
treat and care for people with brain and spinal cord tumours. The
Foundation regards one of its roles as providing funding for small
'one-off' projects that have a clear relationship to the diagnosis,
causes and management of brain tumours.
Accordingly, researchers working in fields that are relevant to brain
tumours are invited to apply for small ad hoc grants to support research
in the calendar year 2007. Grants may be used for equipment,
consumables, part-time staff support or 'top-up' funding for other
grants
Eligibility: Please refer to website link below for more information.
Amount Awarded: Up to $10,000 per grant.
Overheads: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney overhead
charges.

Kidney Health Australia- Medical & Scientific Kidney & Urology Seeding
Grants
Introduction: The purpose of Seeding Grants is to provide support for
the Investigator to achieve ongoing substantive funding from
organisation such as NHMRC. Funding of the second year is conditional
upon evidence being received of an application for ongoing future
funding of the same project. The application should be for a genuinely
new research idea. It is not appropriate to provide seeding grants to
existing projects, which have already received support from Kidney
Health Australia or other granting bodies, or as part funding of a
longer ongoing project. Preferred ranking will be given to applicants
in the early stages of their research career applying for the first time
as Chief Investigator.
Eligibility: The grants will be for biomedical research work to be
carried out by Australians in Australia.
Amount Awarded: Up to $15,000 per year.
Overheads: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney overhead
charges.

Christopher Reeve Foundation- Individual Research Grants
Introduction: The CDRF Individual Grants Program was founded on the
understanding that effective treatments for acute and chronic spinal
cord injury will involve carefully orchestrated multi-disciplinary
interventions, each tailored to the individual patient. For this reason,
the Individual Grants Program, the largest and most comprehensive of the
CDRF research initiatives, supports investigator-initiated research on a
variety of fronts, including axon growth and guidance, remyelination,
cellular replacement, rehabilitation and neuroprotection.
Eligibility: Applicants must hold a PhD, MD, or other equivalent
professional degree, employed at a qualifying research institution.
Amount Awarded: Maximum funding level of US$75,000 per year.
Overheads: This scheme is subject to a University of Sydney overhead
charge of up to 10%.

Australian Antarctic Division- Antarctic Research Applications
2008-2009: Australian Antarctic Science (AAS) Research Grants
Introduction: Australian Antarctic Science (AAS) Grants support
high-quality research projects which will make a significant
contribution to Australia's Antarctic research programme. To be eligible
for an AAS Grant, projects should contribute to the goals of the Science
Strategy. http://www.aad.gov.au/default.asp?casid=13949
Proposals can be for research to be carried out in Antarctica (including
the Subantarctic) or Australia, and should be compatible with the
programme planned for the season. An AAS Grant is for a project's
special requirements and in addition to the basic facilities provided by
the researcher's own organisation.
Guidelines can be found on the website link below:
http://www.aad.gov.au/default.asp?casid=3640
Eligibility: AAS Grants support research by investigators based at any
of the following Australian organisations: universities,
university-funded staff in Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) or other
tertiary education institutions.
Amount Awarded: The maximum level of funding for an individual grant is
$30,000 (GST exclusive). In 2008-2009 a small number of larger grants
(up to a maximum of $60,000) may be awarded to projects considered to be
multidisciplinary in their approach.
Overheads: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney overhead
charges.
