Group of Eight (Go8)- European Fellowships
The Group of Eight today announced the establishment of four annual Fellowships for early career researchers from Europe to work within Go8 universities. The $20,000 Fellowships will be available to eligible researchers from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria. On a rotational basis, four Group of Eight universities will host one Fellow each year. The targeted research themes for the Fellowships are:
* Sustainable Environmental Practices, Resource Management and Human Ecology
* Health and Welfare
* Innovative Technologies
* Human, Digital and Bio-Security
* Language/Cultural Studies
* Biotechnology/Biomedicine
* International Trade

Department of Education Science & Training- Collaboration and Structural Reform Fund (CASR)
Introduction: The objective of the Collaboration and Structural Reform Fund (CASR) is to
* achieve better higher education outcomes in teaching, learning, research and innovation by promoting structural reform and collaboration in the sector.
* Structural reform involves large scale change that aims to significantly improve performance and the achievement of outcomes at the level of individual institutions or the higher education system as a whole.
* Collaboration can occur for a range of purposes and in a variety of ways including:
o among universities;
o between universities and other education and training providers;
o between universities and business and industry;
o between universities and their regional or local communities, and other organisations including local and state or territory governments.
Projects in the areas of mathematics, engineering and the enabling sciences will be given priority in the 2007 funding round.

National Library of Australia- Harold White Fellowships
Introduction: The fellowships offer the means and the time to work with the Library's significant collection of books, journals, newspapers, maps, music, manuscripts, pictures and oral histories. The Harold White Fellowships aim to:
* Promote the National Library of Australia as a centre of scholarly activity and research
* Encourage scholarly and literary use of the Library's collections and the production of publications based on them
* Publicise the Library 's collections
Eligibility: Fellowships are open to established Australian and international researchers or writers in any discipline in which the Library has strong collections.

The British Academy- Elie Kedourie Memorial Fund Awards
Introduction: The aims of the Elie Kedourie Memorial Fund are to promote the study of Middle Eastern and Modern European History, and the History of Political Thought. Grants are available to support any aspect of research, including travel and publication costs. Applications should be made on the standard British Academy Small Research Grant form.
Eligibility: Scholars of any nationality of postdoctoral status, or have comparable experience. Postgraduate students are not eligible to apply.
Amount Awarded: In general, awards do not exceed £1,000.

MS Research Australia- Scientific Meeting on 'Progress in Multiple Sclerosis Research'
The ninth biennial scientific meeting on 'Progress in Multiple Sclerosis Research' will be held in Melbourne at the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research on 15-16th November 2007. Anyone wishing to make a presentation (platform or poster) at this meeting should notify the MS Research Office with the title of the abstract. The deadline for receiving abstracts is 31st July 2007.
Registration forms for the meeting will be distributed in April, or available on the MSRA website www.msra.org.au <http://www.msra.org.au/> or on request from Sue Barham (08 9346 2471 or Email: sumsr at iinet.net.au Registration includes a cocktail reception on 14th November 2007 and lunch, coffee/tea on the two days and is $250 if paid before 31st September 2007. The conference dinner will be subsidized.

Association for International Cancer Research (AICR)- Research Grants
Introduction: AICR's aim is to support fundamental research into the causes, mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer. The emphasis is on basic, as opposed to clinical research. The AICR will consider proposals in which a mixture of basic and clinical research is proposed. Before submitting applications of a clinical or semi-clinical nature, potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact AICR for advice.

Australian Society for Medical Research- Amgen Medical Researcher Award
Introduction: Applications are being sought for the Amgen Medical Researcher Award which will be presented during ASMR Medical Research Week 2007.
This award supports and encourages those researchers with demonstrated independence, excellence, innovation and achievements in medical research, with evidence of translation from bench to potential for application, and with particular emphasis on research of the last 2 years.
Eligibility: Applicant must have received a PhD or MBBS during the last 10 years and have spent the last 2 years working in an Australian medical research department or institute.
Amount Awarded: An international return economy airfare to a conference, plus registration and accommodation expenses (to a maximum of $6,000) and airfare and accommodation for the award ceremony.

Wellcome Trust- Travel Grant
Introduction: This funds short-term visits by scholars based outside the UK, the Republic of Ireland or The Netherlands to one of these countries. Visits under this scheme may be to consult libraries or archives and to exchange views or work with colleagues who have similar research interests. Study or lecture tours, meetings of a professional or vocational nature, workshops, symposia and international congresses are normally excluded.
Eligibility: Experienced researchers need not be in academic life but will normally be expected to hold a doctorate or clinical qualification and have established a research interest in the history of medicine.
Amount Awarded: The maximum award under this scheme is £1000.

National Geographic Society- Conservation Trust Grants: Pre-Applications
Introduction: The objective of the Conservation Trust is to support conservation activities around the world as they fit within the mission of the National Geographic Society. The trust will fund projects that contribute significantly to the preservation and sustainable use of the Earth's biological, cultural, and historical resources.
Before receiving an application form, each principal investigator must submit a pre-application form online. The Conservation Trust accepts pre-applications throughout the year. Please submit your pre-application at least eight months prior to anticipated field dates. Within eight weeks the principal investigator will receive a decision.
Eligibility: Applicants are not expected to have a PhD or other advanced degrees. However, applicants must provide a record of prior research or conservation action as it pertains to the proposed project.
Amount Awarded: Grants usually range from US$15,000 to $20,000.
Overheads: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney overhead and infrastructure charges.
