Telstra Foundation- Social Innovation Grants  

 

Introduction: Social Innovation Grants aim to connect Australian
children and young people (0 - 24 years) to their communities,
particularly those who are experiencing social or geographic isolation.
As well as building social connections, the projects most likely to be
funded will also reflect the Telstra Foundation's priorities of social
innovation, capacity building and measurable impact.  Projects with a
focus on using information and communication technologies will be given
priority.  Preference will be given to projects that best address the
priority areas and meet the following criteria:

*      Social innovation and social connectedness

*      Capacity Building

*      Information and Communication Technologies

*      Measurable Impact

Amount Awarded: Grants from $75,000 per year for up to three years are
available. There is no set upper limit on the size of a grant, however
larger requests are considered against a limited budget.

The Carrick Institute- Competitive Grants Program 2007 

 

Introduction: The Competitive Grants Program supports research,
development and innovation to the enhancement of learning and teaching
in higher education.

The funding priorities for 2006-2008 are:

*      Priority 1: Research and development focussing on issues of
emerging and continuing importance (eg the nexus between teaching and
research; performance indicators for learning and teaching)

*      Priority 2: Strategic approaches to learning and teaching that
address the increasing diversity of the student body

*      Priority 3: Development of robust methods of identifying and
rewarding excellence in teaching (excluding awards schemes)

*      Priority 4: Innovation in learning and teaching, particularly in
relation to the role of new technologies

Amount Awarded: $60,000 to $220,000 up to 2 years (Small projects should
be completed in one year)

British Academy- Small Research Grants 

 

Introduction: The British Academy offers the Small Research Grants to
enable scholars to conduct primary research in the UK or abroad. These
grants are available to support primary research in the humanities and
social sciences. Funds are available to facilitate initial project
planning and development; to support the direct costs of research; and
to enable the advancement of research through workshops, or visits by or
to partner scholars. These grants are tenable for up to 24 months.

Eligibility: Applications from international groups of scholars are
welcome, provided there is a UK-based scholar as lead applicant. 

Amount Awarded: Up to a maximum of 7,500 Pound.

The Cancer Council NSW- Strategic Research Partnership (STREP) Grants
2008: Expressions of Interest

 

Introduction: The Cancer Council NSW has developed a new and innovative
granting scheme, known as Strategic Research Partnership (STREP) Grants,
to encourage groundbreaking clinical research teams to partner with them
to identify, publish and procure cancer research priorities.  The
purposes of the Strategic Research Partnership Grants are to:

*      develop highly effective translational research groups in
clinical settings that have national and international standing

*      accelerate the progress of policy and practice focused research
on cancer in NSW

Eligibility: Applicants must be an Australian citizen or, if a graduate
from overseas, hold permanent resident status.  Applicants must conduct
their research program in an Australian host institution (Funds may be
used to procure research from partners outside NSW, however at least one
Chief Investigator must be from a NSW institution and have a primary
role in at least one component of the proposal)

International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP)- Collaborative
Research Grants  

 

Introduction: The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP)
is the leading professional forum for science, practice, and education
in the field of pain.  The IASP Collaborative Research Grants support
international, interdisciplinary collaborations in pain research.
Membership of the IASP is multidisciplinary and is open to all
professionals involved in the research, diagnosis, and treatment of all
types of pain including acute pain, chronic pain, and cancer pain.

Eligibility: The principal investigator in charge of the overall project
must be a member of IASP of at least one year's standing. 

Amount Awarded: Up to US$15,000 per year.

National Health & Medical Research Council- Career Development Awards  

 

Introduction: This scheme aims to further develop Australian health and
medical researchers early in their career. It will enable investigators
to establish themselves as independent, self-directed researchers;
expand capacity for biomedical, clinical, public health and health
service delivery research and for evidence-based policy development in
Australian health systems; and encourage the translation of research
outcomes into practice.

Special note: 

Applicants should note that there have been a number of changes to the
scheme for 2008 including the following:

*      The introduction of 2 levels of CDA (see details below);

*      The incorporation of both the Industry Fellowship and Howard
Florey Centenary Fellowship into this scheme;

*      Changes to the application and submission process.

Applicants should in the first instance, contact Chris Robinson in the
Research Office to obtain an application ID number and download a copy
of the NHMRC Policy document and Guidelines from the NHMRC web-site (see
link below).

Applicants should complete their application and submit to Chris
Robinson in hard-copy format by 4th April 2007.

*      Applicants should under no circumstances submit their application
directly to the NHMRC's email address.

Eligibility: 

CDA Level 1: Applicants will normally have at least 2 and less than 7
years post-doctoral experience unless exceptional circumstances exist.
Applicants who do not hold a PhD but can demonstrate an equivalent
research qualification (eg a professional doctorate) may also be
eligible to apply. 

CDA Level 2:  Applicants will normally have at least 7 and less than 12
years post-doctoral experience unless exceptional circumstances exist.
Applicants who do not hold a PhD but can demonstrate an equivalent
research qualification (eg a professional doctorate) may also be
eligible to apply. 

Amount Awarded: For awards beginning in 2008, the annual payment for the
first year is: 

*      CDA Level 1 - $90,500; and 

*      CDA Level 2 - $100,000

Annual indexation may be applied in subsequent years

Grants

 

Introduction: The aim of the Environmental Education program is to
support educational projects or programs that develop or widen the
community's knowledge of, skills in, and commitment to protecting the
environment and promoting sustainable behaviour.  The objectives of the
Environmental Grants are:

*      to help attain one or more of the outcomes in the NSW
Government's Environmental Education Plan, Learning for Sustainability


*      to facilitate changes in behaviour of individuals and groups
which affect specific environmental problems  

*      to develop and promote education projects which improve the
environment

The Sea World Research and Rescue Foundation Inc (SWRRFI)- Expressions
of Interest

 

Introduction: The Sea World Research and Rescue Foundation is a
non-profit organisation that seeks to promote research into marine life,
and assist in the rescue of sick, injured and stranded marine animals.
Approved by the Federal Government, the Foundation provides funding for
quality research projects incorporating the protection and preservation
of the marine environment.  Although SWRRFI seeks to encourage and
assist marine sciences in the broadest sense, for the present it gives
priority to projects relating to aspects of the biology of marine
vertebrates and will consider applications from public and private
sectors.

The Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation (GWRDC)-
Preliminary Proposals  

 

Introduction: The GWRDC mission is to enable a sustainable, innovative
and profitable future for the Australian wine industry through strategic
investment in research and development.  The GWRDC supports the growth
of the Australian wine industry by planning and funding collective
research and development (R&D) programs and then facilitating the

Opportunity Projects 2007-2008

 

Introduction: SRDC invites proposals for Travel and Learning Opportunity
Projects such as for mentoring, conduct of workshops and seminars,
support of invited speakers or facilitators for industry functions,
attendance at conferences, study tours, or any other activity intended
to build capacity for learning, change or innovation in sugar industry
people.
