Ford Foundation- Research Grants
Introduction: The Ford Foundation is a resource for innovative people
and institutions worldwide. Our goals are to strengthen democratic
values; reduce poverty and injustice; promote international cooperation
and advance human achievement.
Before a request is made for a grant or program-related investment, a
brief letter of inquiry is advisable to determine whether the
foundation's present interests and funds permit consideration of the
request.
* The letter should include:
* The purpose of the project for which funds are being requested
* Problems and issues the proposed project will address
* Information about the organization conducting the project
* Estimated overall budget for the project
* Period of time for which funds are requested
* Qualifications of those who will be engaged in the project

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) - Pilot Grants
Introduction: AFSP research grants support studies that aim to increase
understanding of the causes of suicide and factors related to suicide
risk, or to test treatments and other interventions designed to prevent
suicide. Investigators from all academic disciplines are eligible to
apply, and both basic science and applied research projects will be
considered, providing the study has an essential focus on suicide or
suicide prevention.
Eligibility: Please refer to website link for more information.
Amount Awarded: Pilot grants provide up to US$10,000 per year for a two
year period, or US$20,000 for one year.
Overheads: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney overhead and
infrastructure charges.

Australian Primary Health Care Research Institute (APHCRI) - Stream
Seven Linkage and Exchange Travelling Fellowships
Introduction: APHCRI's mission is to provide national leadership in
improving the quality and effectiveness of primary health care through
the conduct of high quality priority-driven research and the support and
promotion of best practice.
The objectives of the Linkage and Exchange Travelling Fellowships are
to:
* Further develop the linkage and exchange model.
* Share lessons learned from Australia, and develop a multinational
perspective and network of contacts to facilitate policy exchange and
collaboration.
* Improve the capacity of Australian Primary Health Care
Researchers to conduct research in all parts of the world.
Eligibility: Eligible applicants must have actively participated on a
Stream Four spoke, and must be either an Australian citizen, an
Australian permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen who holds a
Special Category Visa.
Amount Awarded: APHCRI is offering up to five Linkage and Exchange
Travelling Fellowships to the value of $40,000 each.
Overheads: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney overhead and
infrastructure charges.

Science Linkages: Competitive Grants Round 12
Introduction: The aim of the Competitive Grants element of the
International Science Linkages programme is to foster and promote
excellent researcher-initiated, international science and technology
activities which meet the objectives of the ISL programme. Under the
programme, grants are offered, on a competitive basis. Competitive
Grants supports:
* international collaborative scientific research and technology
projects and related activities;
* staging major international scientific conferences in Australia;
* showcasing Australia's scientific research and technology
capabilities; and
* participation in international strategic planning activities for
major international collaborative scientific projects.

Department of Environment and Conservation (NSW)- Environmental Research
Grants
Introduction: The aim of the Environmental Research program is to
support research projects that help address environmental problems in
NSW. Proposals for scientific, economic and/or social research in the
major category of
biodiversity will be considered. The objectives of the Environmental
Research Program are to:
* generate new knowledge or information to facilitate local
solutions to environmental problems
* discover new methods of operation for NSW industries that are
less harmful to the environment
* provide knowledge about general environmental problems
* assess environmental degradation.

Amount Awarded: The total amount to be offered under the Environmental
Research program in 2007 is $900,000.
