Department of Education Science & Training- Tender: Expressions of
Interest
EOI PRN 15636 - Provision of Courses for the Australian Government
Summer School for Teachers Programme
The Department is seeking Expressions of Interest from organisations or
consortia capable of designing, developing and delivering high quality
professional learning for up to 1,000 of Australia's best teachers at
the first Australian Government Summer Schools for Teachers in January
2008. The courses will be designed to further enhance participants
knowledge and skills in one of five priority areas - Literacy and
Numeracy, English, Mathematics, Science and Australian History.

AusAID- Australian Development Research Awards- 2007 Funding Round: Call
for Expressions of Interest
Introduction: AusAID seeks to attract innovative and relevant
development research projects that aim to address development problems
of interest to AusAID. The 2007 Funding Round will award funding for
research in the following six AusAID Priority Theme Areas:
* Accelerating Economic Growth
* Enhancing the Effectiveness of Humanitarian Assistance
* Gender Equality
* Health Systems Strengthening
* HIV/AIDS
* Environment, Forests and Climate Change
Applicants must nominate a single AusAID Priority Theme and address the
development concerns outlined in the Theme's descriptions/selection
criteria. Each Theme outlines sub-themes or topics that are of
particular interest to AusAID.
The Funding Round consists of two stages. In the first stage, applicants
are requested to submit an Expression of Interest application of no
longer than six pages. Following a structured review process, a
shortlist of appropriate candidates will be identified and invited to
submit full research proposals.
Eligibility: The Principal Investigator must nominate an organisation
with which he/she is affiliated to administer the grant and provide
support
Amount Awarded: Successful projects are eligible to receive funding
between $50,000 and $250,000 per year.
Overheads: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney overhead
charges.

NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing (OLGR)- Request for shutdown of
gaming machines in New South Wales.
Introduction: The OLGR in NSW is seeking research proposals for the
conduct of an evaluation of the six-hour shutdown of gaming machines in
NSW. The research is to be conducted as a result of a recommendation
made by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART)
following its inquiry into harm minimisation measures for gamblers
conducted during 2003 and 2004. IPART recommended, and the NSW
Government approved, the conduct of research into the existing six-hour
shutdown requirement.

Amount Awarded: A total funding budget of up to $150,000 (including GST)
is available for this research.

Criminology Research Council (CRC)- Consultancies & Research Grant
Applications
Introduction: The Criminology Research Council controls and administers
the Criminology Research Fund which provides research grants to
researchers in universities, government departments or similar
institutions within Australia. The Council's role is to fund
criminological research from a budget supported by its members and
relates to methodologically sound research in the areas of sociology,
psychology, law, statistics, police, judiciary, corrections, mental
health, social welfare, education and related fields. The research to be
conducted is policy-oriented, and research outcomes should have the
potential for application in other jurisdictions or nationally.

The Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience- Research Grant
Introduction: The Mizutani Foundation for Glycoscience invites grant
applications for basic studies in the field of glycoscience. The aim of
Mizutani Foundation is to contribute to the welfare of mankind through
promotion of basic studies on glycoconjugates mainly by distributing
research grants to qualified scientists regardless of their
nationalities or ethnic origins.
Eligibility: An applicant must have a PhD or its equivalent.
Amount Awarded: As much as 7,000,000 yen may be requested,

The Commonwealth Fund- Harkness Fellowship in Health Care Policy
Introduction: The Commonwealth Fund's Harkness Fellowships in Health
Care Policy provide a unique opportunity for mid-career health services
researchers and practitioners from Australia, New Zealand, the United
Kingdom, and Germany to spend up to 12 months in the United States,
conducting original research and working with leading U.S. health policy
experts. Fellows can expect to gain an in-depth understanding of the
U.S. health care system and policy challenges, enhance their
methodological skills, and develop valuable contacts and opportunities
for ongoing cross-national exchange and collaboration.
Eligibility: Be citizens of Australia, Germany, New Zealand, the
Netherlands, or the United Kingdom (in the U.K., citizens of other
countries with permanent residency and five or more years tenure in the
U.K. may also apply);
Amount Awarded: Each Harkness Fellowship provides up to US$107,000.

National Heart Foundation- Travel Grants
Introduction: The National Heart Foundation offers Travel Grants to
junior researchers working in the area of cardiovascular disease or
related areas. Travel Grants will only be awarded to researchers who are
based in Australia travelling overseas to present their cardiovascular
research at a conference. Researchers may only receive one travel grant
per year and up to two travel grants during their pre and postdoctoral
training.
Eligibility: Students studying for higher degrees (PhD, Masters etc) and
junior Postdoctoral Fellows (no more than 5 years postdoctoral).
Applicants must be Australian citizens or Permanent Residents.
Amount Awarded: Up to $1,500 can be requested and applies to all
applications.
Overheads: This scheme is exempt from University of Sydney overhead
charges.

Australian Biosecurity CRC- Chris Baldock Prize for Early Career
Researcher
The Chris Baldock Prize for Early Career Researcher recognises and
honours Chris's extraordinary attributes as a scientist, innovator and
mentor. The prize is open to early career researchers working in an area
relevant to the mission and objectives of the AB-CRC

includes funding of up to $4,000 for conference travel, and an enduring
glass award. Selection criteria include demonstrated authorship and

Australian Academy of Science- Australian participation in European
Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research (COST).
Introduction: The Australian Academy of Science receives funding from
the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) to deliver the
project Australian participation in European Cooperation in the field of
Scientific and Technical Research (COST). The objectives of the
programme are to:
* Increase the uptake of leading edge science and technology (S&T)
through:
o promoting access to and participation by Australian researchers
in strategically focussed, leading edge, international scientific
research and technology; and
o increased strategic alliances between Australian and overseas
researchers.
* Facilitate Australia's access to the global S&T system by
supporting bilateral and multilateral relations with other countries.
* Please note: Only the first 10 applications will be funded: first
in first served.
