University of Melbourne: Asialink- Arts Residencies
Residencies are available in the following art form areas:
1 Arts Management Residency Information
This program provides opportunities for Australian arts managers to experience working with an arts organisation in an Asian country for up to four months. Residencies are open to arts managers in the areas of visual arts and crafts, performing arts, literature, multimedia, technical production and festivals.
2 Literature Residency Information
Residencies are open to writers of fiction, non-fiction (including essays, biography, history, travel writing etc), children's writers, poets, playwrights, screenwriters etc.
3 Performing Arts Residency Information
Residencies are open to performing arts practitioners, including directors, actors, musicians, dancers, designers, production managers and technicians.
4 Visual Arts Residency Information
Residencies are open to visual artists and crafts people including painters, sculptors, installation and multimedia artists, ceramic, glass, textile and wood workers, photographers, etc.

State Trustees Australia Foundation- Grants
Introduction: Applications to the State Trustees Australia Foundation for 2007 are now open. State Trustees Australia Foundation is a public charitable trust that provides income in perpetuity from bequests and donations, to Australian charities as grants. Funding is available under the following categories:

* Psychiatric illness, intellectual disability, and acquired brain injury
* Physical disability
* Cancer research and treatment
* Breast cancer research and treatment

CPA Australia- Research Grant Scheme
Introduction: CPA Australia offers research grants to give encouragement to academic accounting researchers who are members of university accounting departments, and who for reasons such as age or length of service in an academic environment have not developed a research profile sufficient to attract substantial funding from other sources. As well as the Research Grants Scheme the following grants are also available.
Small business research grant
A grant of up to $10,000 is offered to researchers based in Australian universities for research into small business issues.
Not-for-profit research grant
A grant of up to $10,000 is offered to researchers based in Australian universities for a research project on not-for-profit issues.
Public sector research grant
A grant of up to $10,000 is offered to researchers based in Australian universities for a research project on public sector issues.
William P. Birkett research grant
A grant of up to $10,000 for research into the area of management accounting to academic accounting researchers based in Australian and New Zealand universities.
Eligibility: Applicants must be permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand presently employed at an Australian or New Zealand tertiary institution; and applicants must be CPA Australia members.
Amount Awarded: A maximum of $10,000 is available for any one grant.

Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) - Conference Support Grants
Introduction: AIATSIS has a small competitive grants sub-program that provides limited financial support for successful applicants to attend major international conferences held outside Australia. Support will take the form of a subsidy towards conference attendance, not funding in full, with the amount of subsidy to be determined on merit. Applicants should be presenting a paper at the conference. The paper should make a significant contribution to Australian Indigenous studies;

The Cancer & Bowel Research Trust- Research Grants
Introduction: The Cancer & Bowel Research Trust is an independent non-profit organisation whose objectives are to provide funding to scientific and medical research into the causes, cure and prevention of cancer related illness for all Australians, along with increasing community awareness of preventative measures into the causes of bowel cancer. The funding must relate to causes, cure and prevention of cancer related illness.
Eligibility: Applications will be accepted from appropriately qualified researchers who will be conducting the research at a host institution in Australia. The institution can be within a University, affiliated to a University or major hospital, or an appropriate independent medical or scientific research institute.

Motor Neurone Disease Research Institute of Australia- Research Grants 2008
Introduction: Researchers working in Australia in fields that are relevant to motor neurone disease are invited to apply for funding to support research in the calendar year 2008. The following grants are available:
Grants-in-Aid for research into motor neurone disease in 2008
The MND Research Institute of Australia regards its role as one of providing seed-funding for research that is innovative and having a clear relationship to the causes, treatments and cures of MND, or the support of people living with MND. In recent years, grants-in-aid have ranged from $15,000 to $35,000 with an average of around $25,000.
Zo-ee MND Research Grant ($25,000)
For research into cause, treatment or cure of MND in basic or applied science; part of the funding must be used to attend the International Symposium on ALS/MND in Birmingham, UK in late 2008.
MND Victoria Research Grant ($25,000)
For applied research into MND, including social research; part of the funding must be used to attend the International Symposium on ALS/MND in Birmingham, UK in late 2008.

Psoriasis Australia Inc- Biennial Psoriasis Research Fund
Introduction: Applications are welcome for grants to assist in research into psoriasis. Research could cover a number of fields: community studies, patient care, psychological factors, pathological studies. Grants will be awarded to projects in the advanced planning stage or already in progress stage.

AO Foundation- Research Grants
Introduction: The goal of the AO is the research, development and approval of every aspect of osteosynthesis methods and devices and to provide the education to spread this knowledge around the globe.
Start up grants
Maximum amount of CHF 60,000 per year and a duration limit of two years.
This grant category is designed to encourage researchers to develop unconventional, novel projects and to expand in a wide range of research fields within the general areas of interest of the AO Foundation.
Focus grants
Maximum amount of CHF 100,000 per year and a duration limit of three years. For the 2007 calls, the clinical focus / priority areas for these focus grants are as follows: fracture fixation in osteoporotic bone; large bone defect healing; imaging and planning of surgery and degeneration and regeneration of the intervertebral disc.

Introduction: The Fellowships of the MND Research Institute of Australia aim to encourage young researchers to focus their interest on MND.
Bill Gole MND Postdoctoral Fellowship (2008 - 2010)
The Bill Gole MND Postdoctoral Fellowship is directed towards postdoctoral scientists with a track record in areas of neuroscience related to motor neurone disease. For the first time, salary for a full-time research fellow will be funded at $72,500 per year for an increased period of up to three years.

Land & Water Australia- Exchange Incentive Fund: Call for proposals
Introduction: The Exchange Incentive Fund is a small grants fund managed in a partnership between Greening Australia's Exchange service and Land & Water Australia's Native Vegetation R&D Program. The aim of the fund is to help regional practitioners better manage their natural resources by:
* Increasing their access to current knowledge and research on native vegetation; and
* Generating new knowledge through links to relevant researchers and organisations.
Please note: Funding is ongoing until the budget allocation is exhausted. Projects are funded on a first in first served basis.

Human Frontier Science Program- Long-term and Cross Disciplinary Fellowships
Introduction: The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) supports basic research focused on elucidating the complex mechanisms of living organisms. Emphasis is placed on novel, innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to basic research that involve scientific exchanges across national boundaries.
Long-term Fellowships
LTFs are intended for applicants with a PhD from the life sciences who are interested in exploring new ground in biology or at the interface to neighbouring disciplines. Fellowships provide support for a period of three years
Cross Disciplinary Fellowships
CDFs are intended for those coming from the "outside" as evident by previous research experience (e.g. during the PhD) who want to train in a biological research environment or work in a team of scientists that investigates a fundamental biological question. Fellowships provide support for a period of three years.

Human Frontier Science Program- Short-term Fellowships
Introduction: The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) supports basic research focused on elucidating the complex mechanisms of living organisms. Emphasis is placed on novel, innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to basic research that involve scientific exchanges across national boundaries.
Short-Term Fellowships are reserved for those who wish to work for a short period in a laboratory in another country for example:
* to learn or develop new techniques
* to use instruments or technology not available in their own country
* to establish collaborations in a new area of research rather than ongoing projects
* to obtain pilot results to establish a new international collaboration
Short-Term Fellowships are awarded for periods of 2 weeks to 3 months.
Eligibility: Candidates must have obtained or be about to obtain their research doctorate (PhD) or a doctoral-level degree (e.g. a research based M.D. or medical PhD)
