Heart Foundation Research Funding Information Session
On Wednesday 25 January 2006, the National Heart Foundation of Australia
(NHF) will be conducting an information session for persons interested
in research into cardiovascular disease.
The session will be invaluable for both new and experienced researchers
in the area of cardiovascular disease, where you already have Heart
Foundation Research funding or are seeking it.
It is an opportunity to learn about each award currently being offered
by the Heart Foundation, as well as a number of exciting new
developments such as changes to the application process; improved
opportunities with funding partners; media opportunities and much more.
If you are involved in the administration of research grants, you are
also most welcome. Bring your colleagues!

Sydney Catchment Authority - 2006 Funding Round - Waterborne Pathogens -
Collaborative Research Opportunities
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The SCA is calling for expressions
of interest from universities and research organisations to undertake
collaborative research in the area of waterborne pathogens. Funding for
up to 3 years is available to undertake the following three research
projects:
- Cryptosporidium in feral animals
- Relative risk from sewage treatment plant effluent
- Livestock movements in relation to waterways

Australian Government - Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet -
Research Support for Counter-Terrorism
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The Science, Engineering and
Technology (SET) Unit of the Department of the Prime Minister and
Cabinet manages the Research Support for Counter-Terrorism funding
programme to support national counter-terrorism capabilities. The
objective of the programme is to commission and deliver strategically
focussed research and development to enhance national counter-terrorism
capabilities. This pre-proposal form should be read in conjunction with
the programme guidelines available at www.pmc.gov.au/setu
Amount awarded: The programme supports Australian research and
development projects assessed as having a high potential of addressing a
capability gap. Generally up to 50% of the total eligible project costs
are available from the programme for research and development projects.

preliminary Project Proposals
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The Forest and Wood Products
Research and Development Corporation invites preliminary project
proposals to develop revisions to the existing Multi-storey Residential
Timber Framed Construction Manuals and invites responses from
appropriately qualified engineers/designers etc, to develop revisions to
the manuals in line with new building regulations and building
technology developments.
Amount awarded: As a guideline the FWPRDC traditionally provides cash
funding representing a maximum 50% of overall project costs (cash and
in-kind)

Australian Government - Australian Transport Safety Bureau - Aviation
Safety Research Grants
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The ATSB's primary responsibility
in aviation safety relates to its independent investigation of transport
safety matters. The ATSB undertakes no-blame investigations aimed at
preventing a re-occurrence of similar type accidents and incidents. The
immediate beneficiaries of safety investigations are the travelling
public, the aviation industry and its participants.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau invites applications from
suitably qualified individuals and organisations to conduct their own
research into aviation safety particularly as it applies to the
Australian civil aviation context.
Eligibility: To be eligible for consideration, the research and its
outcomes must directly benefit Australian civil aviation safety.
Amount awarded: Grants of up to $25,000 (including GST)

Australian Government - Australian Transport Safety Bureau - Road Safety
Research Grants
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The ATSB's responsibilities in road
safety include providing policy and technical advice on road safety
issues to the Australian Government and coordinating the National Road
Safety Strategy and Action Plans.
The ATSB undertakes and manages research into a wide range of road
safety issues, including the collection and analysis of road crash data.
The Road Safety Research Grants Programme funds one-off research
projects proposed by the community. It complements the ATSB's targeted
research programme and plays a role in encouraging researchers from a
broad range of scientific disciplines to consider road safety research.
Eligibility: There is no single eligibility criterion for these grants.

Amount awarded: Each year, grants of up to $25,000 (including GST) are
made available for original road safety research projects that can be
completed within 12 months

American Australian Association - Fellowships 2006
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: To promote educational exchange
between the United States and Australia, and strengthen science,
technology and business relationships, the American Australian
Association's Education Fund (AAAEF) awards several fellowships annually
to Australians for advanced research and study in the United States and
in Australia.
Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens doing research or
studying at the graduate level - Masters, PhD or post-doctoral.
Applicants may already be in the U.S. at the time of application. Please
also read the specific eligibility criteria on the web site.
Amount awarded: The AAAEF plans to award at least six fellowships at the
graduate (Masters, PhD or post-doctoral) level of up to $25,000 US each
for the Year 2006-2007.

Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation (JDRF) invites applications from young researchers for grants
of up to $2,500 and allied health and nursing professionals for grants
up to $2000 to allow travel to research institutions or scientific
meetings, for the purpose of furthering their expertise in the study of
type 1 (juvenile) diabetes.
Eligible candidates for both forms of Travel Grants will be:
* Medical, science or allied health graduates who are undertaking
type 1 diabetes research
* Researchers in the early stage of their career (eg PhD students
or not more than 5 years post-doctoral)

Technology and the Arts - Contemporary Music Touring Program
Introduction to Funding Opportunity: The Department of Communications,
Information Technology and the Arts Contemporary Music Touring Program,
aims to develop viable touring opportunities within Australia for
Australian musicians, and to increase audience access to live Australian
contemporary music, particularly in rural and regional Australia.
Eligibility: Applications are accepted from performers, managers,
agents, music organisations and music networks on behalf of
professionals working in the Australian music industry.
The touring musicians must be Australian residents. Applications are
accepted for performances of original Australian contemporary music.
Amount awarded: The maximum grant is $10,000.
