1	NHMRC - Development Grants 2005 for 2006 funding

The NHMRC Development Grants Scheme aims to:

1.	Support the development of health or medical research that has
commercial potential and which has the potential to benefit the
Australian community.
2.	Provide funding for research commercialisation at the early
proof-of-concept stage.

Revised documents relevant to the submission of applications and the
peer review processes for Development Grant funding to commence in
September 2005 are available at:

Applicants should familiarise themselves with the "Development Grants
Funding Policy, Version 3" and the "Advice and Instructions to
Applicants for NHMRC Development Grants" before completing an
application.

2	Australian Academy of Science - Mawson Medal and Lecture 2006
The Mawson Lectures, delivered at the Congresses of the Geological
Society of Australia, recognise outstanding contributions to earth
science in Australia. The lecture commemorates the work of the late Sir
Douglas Mawson, FAA, FRS.

Lecturers are awarded a medal which is presented at the Academy's annual
meeting. The award is made to coincide with each convention of the
Geological Society of Australia.

3	Australian Academy of Science - Ian Wark Medal and Lecture 2006
The Ian Wark Medal and Lecture recognises the contributions to
Australian science and industry by the late Sir Ian Wark, CMG, CBE, FAA,
FTSE. The award recognises contributions to the prosperity of Australia
where such prosperity is attained through the advancement of scientific
knowledge or its application, or both. The award is normally made every
two years.

NB - If a proposed candidate is already the recipient of an Academy
award the second award must be for a distinct, additional, body of work
undertaken since the first award, and/or work in a different field.

4	Australian Academy of Science - David Craig Medal 2006
The David Craig Medal recognises the outstanding contribution to
chemical research of Emeritus Professor David Craig, AC, FAA, FRS. Its
purpose is to recognise contributions of a high order to any branch of
chemistry by active researchers. The awardee is expected to present
several public lectures in cities across Australia. The award is made
annually.

undertaken since the first award, and/or work in a different field.

5	Australia-China Council - Beijing Residence Awards
The 2005-6 Residencies in Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Taipei will
run from 1 November 2005 to 31 December 2006. 

Applications will open on 1 July and will close on 29 July 2005.

Applications for residencies prior to November 2005 have closed.  If you
wish to be placed on a reserve list, please email the Secretariat.

Use of an apartment is awarded for a minimum period of one and a maximum
of three months.  Style of apartments may vary between locations. Awards
are for accommodation and include some assistance with orientation and
in establishing contacts.  Residents cover their own airfares and living
expenses and make their own travel arrangements including obtaining
visas and travel insurance.  An Australia-China Council selection
committee will consider proposals and award the residencies on merit.
Successful applicants will be informed in September.

6	Queensland Government - Responsible Gambling Research Grants
Program 2005-2006
As part of the broader research program, the Queensland Government is
seeking gambling-related research proposals to be funded through the
2004-2005 Responsible Gambling Research Grants Program. The purpose of
the grants program is to:

*	Enhance the quality and quantity of gambling related research in
Queensland; and
*	Contribute to the development of gambling policy in Queensland.

7	Myer Foundation - Social Justice - Research Grants

The Foundation will provide support to those initiatives that address
issues relating to social exclusion and disadvantage that in particular:

*	Assist organisations providing services to asylum seekers in
detention and those in the community on Temporary Protection and
Bridging Visas, and support organisations that advocate for better
conditions and just outcomes for them
*	Support indigenous communities to identify their own priorities
and develop culturally appropriate and effective solutions to the many
serious issues affecting their community

8	Apex Foundation for Research into Intelectual Disability Limited
- Research Grants
The Foundation invites applications from individuals or research teams
for grants in support of new or existing research projects in 2005.
Grants may only be awarded for research to be carried out within the
Commonwealth of Australia and it is expected that the total sum
available for distribution will be in the vicinity of $60,000.
Grants may be awarded to workers in any discipline (medical,
educational, epidemiological, psychological, biological, sociological,
etc), which is concerned with the causes, diagnosis, prevention or
treatment of intellectual disability and allied conditions.

10	National Institute of Clinical Studies (NICS) - Fellowship
Program
The purpose of the NICS Fellowship Program is to provide the opportunity
for future health care leaders to acquire knowledge and skills that will
assist them in improving use of evidence-based practice in Australia and
contributing to international knowledge about effective change
strategies for improving uptake of evidence in clinical practice. The
program aims to build a community of practitioners with ongoing
participation in NICS' national programs for implementing evidence in
clinical practice and developing implementation methods.
