2        Amgen Medical Researcher Award 2005
Applications are being sought for the Amgen Medical Researcher Award
which will be presented during ASMR Medical Research Week 2005.
 
This award supports and encourages those researchers with demonstrated
independence, excellence, innovation and achievements in medical and
translational research with particular emphasis on achievements in the
last 2 years.

3                    NHMRC Workshop - Emerging Issues in Stem Cell
Therapy
 
The Gene and related Therapies Research Advisory Panel (GTRAP) of the
National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) invites
researchers, clinicians, Human Research Ethics Committee members and
other interested parties to attend a Workshop on emerging issues related
to the conduct of human clinical trials involving stem cells.

Projects Grant
 
Geoffrey Gardiner Dairy Foundation will provide funding projects
preferably up to the value of $25,000, although in special circumstances
funding above this level to a maximum of $100,000 may be considered.
Projects incorporating additional funding sources are preferred and will
be favoured. Applicants are encouraged to view this as seed funding and
seek additional funds from other sources.

5        Australian Coal Association (ACA) - Research Program
 
ACARP will fund projects that lead to improvements in safety standards
and performance, a reduction in the environmental impacts of mining and

6        Pfizer Australia CardioVascular Lipid (CVL) - Research Grants
 
The CardioVascular Lipid Research Grants are awarded for the purpose of
furthering clinical research in the fields of cardiovascular disease
including stroke, lipid disorders and associated areas. Applications are
invited from Australian medical graduates who have entered the field of
research (or returned after an appropriate break) within the last five
years. Funding for CVL Grants will be up to $55,000 (including GST) per
annum and will be awarded to cover part salaries, equipment, research

8        Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF) - Individual
Research Grants
 
CRPF is committed to the goal of developing treatments and cures for
paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Since its 1982 founding as the
American Paralysis Foundation, the organization has invested more than
$30 million in its individual research grants program. CRPF funds
activities that hold promise of identifying therapies for paralysis
caused by spinal cord injury and other sequelae of CNS injury. Senior
scientists, young investigators and postdoctoral fellows may serve as
principal investigators. Two-year awards are available for senior
scientists and young investigators with a maximum funding level of
US$75,000 per year (indirect costs limited to 10% of the direct).

9        Batten Disease Support and Research Association (BDSRA) -
Request for Proposal 2005
The Batten Disease Support and Research Association (BDSRA) is issuing a
Request for Proposals aimed at promoting research into understanding
NCL. Proposals will be received for all forms of NCL and general
research into NCL. Multiyear proposals are generally discouraged unless
there are extenuating circumstances. Grant awards are available up to
US$35,000.

Each year, The Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation provides
grants of up to US$10,580 (a symbolic amount representing the cost of
the "Spirit of St Louis") to men and women whose individual initiative
and work in a wide spectrum of disciplines furthers the Lindberghs'

12      Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) - Research Grants (Letter of
Intent)
 
The LAF offers funding for Young Investigator Research Awards of up to
$50,000 per year, and Research Awards of up to $75,000 annually, in the
areas of cancer survivorship and testicular cancer research. Young
investigators are defined as within eight years of completing a terminal
degree or within five years of initiating independent research within a
mentored laboratory, while general research awards support new research
projects initiated by established investigators.

13      US Department of Defense - Congressionally Directed Medical
Research Programs (CDMRP)
 
The office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs
(CDMRP) manages Congressional Special Interest Medical Research Programs
(CSI) encompassing breast, prostate, and ovarian cancers,
neurofibromatosis, military health, and other specified areas. Since
fiscal year 1992, the CDMRP has managed approximately $3.4 billion in
Congressional appropriations for peer-reviewed research aimed to
prevent, control, and cure disease. This year, applicants are invited to
apply for four main programs: Breast Cancer Research Program; Chronic
Myelogenous Leukemia Research Program; Prostate Cancer Research Program;
and the Neurofibromatosis Research Program.

14      Cancer Institute NSW - Cancer Research Leaders Program
 
This program is designed to strengthen cancer research capacity by
facilitating new academic posts and outstanding research teams at NSW
universities, hospitals and/or other institutions. This program will be
directed to attracting outstanding researcher leaders from interstate
and/or overseas, and their core team of researchers. Support for a
Research Leaders Program grant is valued up to $650,000 per annum for
each of five years. Up to two Research Leaders Program grants will be
offered.

17      BATTEN Disease Support and Research Association (BDSRA) -
Request for Proposal 2005 (Research Fellowships)
The BDSRA is including in its 2005 Request for Proposals, the
establishment of postdoctoral fellowship/s of up to US$40,000 for salary
and benefits per annum, for two to three years. Continued funding for
years two and/or three are contingent upon submission and evaluation of
a progress report three months prior to renewal for funding.
Applications will be reviewed based on strength of the proposal (as
described above), the postdoctoral applicant and the laboratory in which
the fellowship will be performed.
