Round 1 2004 Applicants Please Note: The ARC Guidelines do not permit an

rounds. If you wish to apply in Round 1 your project must be substantially
different to that submitted in Round 1 this year.
ARC Linkage-Projects 2004 (Round 2) Eligibility Exemption: Due in the
Research Office by 12th October 2004.
If a University of Sydney applicant for ARC Linkage-Projects 2004 (Round 2)
requires one or more of the following eligibility exemptions:
*Potential APDI fellow eligibility- e.g. awarded PhD more than 3 years ago,
career interruption/changes etc
*Potential CI or APDI fellow - with financial interests in, or a position
with, their potential industry partner
*Waiver of requirements re minimum cash contribution by industry partner
A written request justifying the applicant's special circumstances for an
eligibility exemption must be submitted to the Research Office by the 12th
October 2004. Please forward to:

Research Office
Main Quadrangle Building, A14
ARC/NHMRC overlap: If you are unsure whether your application is more
appropriately considered by the ARC or the NHMRC, you should forward a
two-page summary outlining your proposal to the Research Office by 12th
October 2004. A committee of ARC & NHMRC representatives will consider your
proposal and advise of the decision within about two weeks.
Industry Partner eligibility:
If, after reading the funding rules, any doubt exists over the eligibility
of an organisation to be an industry partner, applicants can seek advice
from ARC about the status of the industry partner organisation before
developing the application. The applicant will be advised of the decision as
soon as possible to allow time for a detailed application to be completed.
Industry Partner cash contribution exemption:
Organisations such as community groups, small business enterprises,
charities, and start-up commercial organisations that can demonstrate that
they do not have ready access to cash reserves, may seek exemption for the
minimum cash requirement. In such cases, the applicant must submit a request
for exemption from the 20 percent cash contribution requirement in writing
through the Research Office. The request must quantify in detail the in-kind
contribution and the industry partner's commitment to providing it. However,
applicants should note that the cash contribution is an important indicator
for assessors when judging the degree of commitment and level of
collaboration from the industry partner.
See section 4.4 - 4.4.3 and 6.4 of the ARC Linkage Project Funding Rules
