NEWS

AUSTRALIAN SPACE SCIENCE CONFERENCE

The Australian Space Science Conference (ASSC) is the focus of scientific
cooperation and discussion in Australia on research relating to space. The
Australasian space scene has gained considerable prominence in the last two
years. For more information please go to the February News section in the
Research Office website by following this link:

UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY GUIDELINES FOR ARC DISCOVERY PROJECTS 2004 AVAILABLE
Guidelines to assist University of Sydney applicants in the completion of
ARC Discovery-Projects applications are now available on the main page of
the Research Office Website: http://www.usyd.edu.au/reschols.

EUROPEAN COMMISSION - THE SIXTH FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME
Under its "Sixth Framework Agreement" (2002 - 2006) the European Commission
is directing considerable funding towards collaborative projects involving
15 European Union Member States, 13 Associated Candidate Countries and 13
Third Countries having a co-operation agreement (of which Australia is
one). "Calls" for proposals are regularly sought in three "Activity
Areas". For more information please go to the February News section in the
Research Office website by following this link:
http://www.usyd.edu.au/su/reschols/news.htm

NHMRC - HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH PROGRAM
A call for Expressions of Interest for funding under the Health Services
Research Program was made in October 2003. Applications are due by 27
February 2004.

The NHMRC understands that some applicants have been approaching officials
in the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing asking for
endorsement of their applications. Whilst the Department is very
supportive of this funding initiative it is not appropriate for individual
officers to commit the Department in terms of endorsement for individual
applications. For more information please go to the February News section
in the Research Office website by following this link:

RESEARCH GRANTS

AUSTRALIAN DENTAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION (ARDF) - RESEARCH GRANTS

decades by the ADRF. Whilst oral cancer is of particular concern, there are
other medical conditions, which often relate to oral disease. This
constitutes an important part of the dental research conducted through ADRF
Grants. Dental research has also greatly helped to reduce pain in dentistry
and allay fears associated with oral disease. For more information see:
