RESEARCH GRANTS

DARPA OPPORTUNITIES FOR RESEARCH FOR UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY RESEARCHERS - 
URGENT CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST (EOI)

DARPA (Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency) is one of the largest 
research funding agencies in the USA. It specifically targets 
defense-related research programs.  The web page for a brief overview of 
DARPA is at http://www.darpa.mil/

DARPA is looking for opportunities in Australia and is interested in any 
research programs which include:
* Counter-terrorism
* Assured Use of Space
* Networked Manned and Unmanned Systems
* Robust, Self-Forming Networks
* Detect, Identify, Track and Destroy Elusive Surface Targets
* Characterisation of Underground Structures
* Bio-Revolution
* Cognitive Computing
DARPA is interested in new breakthrough technologies which "make the 
previously impossible, possible".

If you are a University of Sydney staff member interested in pursuing 
opportunities with DARPA - please prepare an EOI: a 3-5 line description of 
the technology and a statement as to why you believe that the research is 
"world leading", how you think that it could be applied in a defence 
environment, how it makes the "previously impossible, possible" and the 
preferred/only location for any demonstration or briefing.

Please forward your Expression of Interest to Professor Les Field Acting 
PVC(R) - lfield at vcc.usyd.edu.au - by Wednesday 02/07/2003 and he will 
provide expressions of interest on behalf of the University to DARPA.
