NSW SPORTS SAFETY AWARDS
Nominations are now called for the current round of the NSW Sports Safety 
Awards Scheme.  The Scheme consists of three categories ranging from $5,000 
to $25,000.

ARC RESEARCH NETWORKS: SEED FUNDING PROPOSALS
The ARC GAMS application form for seed-funding proposals under its Special 
Research Initiative has been pushed back.  There may be a delay of up to 
two weeks in releasing the form. The ARC will ensure that a period of at 
least six weeks is allowed between the date on which the form becomes 
available and the closing date for applications.  For more information, see

AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCE - AUSTRALIAN FRONTIERS OF SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM
The Academy is holding its inaugural Australian Frontiers of Science 
symposium at the Shine Dome in Canberra on 31 July and 1 August 2003.  The 
Academy would like to invite research organisations to support one or two 
of their best early- to mid-career researchers to attend the Australian 
Frontiers of Science symposium.

RESEARCH GRANTS

INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY - INNOVATION ACCESS PROGRAMME 
(IAP)  COMPETITIVE GRANTS
The IAP  International S&T offers assistance through a Competitive Grants 
component for international research and development cooperation and 
related activities.  The Grants offered are up to $50,000 per major 
international conference to be held in Australia.

TENDER FOR A PILOT OF DRYLAND SALINITY TRADING AND OFFSET SCHEME
The Tender is part of the National Market-Based Instruments (MBI) Pilots 
Program. Total funding for the Pilot(s) is up to A$360,000.  The goal of 
the Program is to increase Australia’s capacity to use MBI’s to achieve 
natural resource management outcomes.

THE AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF THE HUMANITIES - TRAVELING FELLOWSHIPS
The Academy is offering five Traveling Fellowships of $2500 for short-term 
research and consultation abroad in the coming year, to scholars resident 
in Australia and working in the field of the Humanities (Philosophy and 
Religion, Language and Literature, Linguistics, History, Prehistory, 
Archaeology, Classics, Visual Arts and Musicology).

GLAUCOMA FOUNDATION - GRANT-IN-AID
The sponsor funds research to determine the causes of glaucoma, to improve 
methods of treatment, and ultimately, to develop cures for the various 
causes of glaucoma.  Initial grant funding for a one-year period is 
$US35,000.  A grantee is permitted to apply for a grant renewal of up to 
US$50,000.

CONFERENCE & TRAVEL

SIR ZELMAN COWEN UNIVERSITIES FUND FELLOWSHIPS IN SUPPORT OF ACADEMIC 
EXCHANGE BETWEEN UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY & HEBREW UNIVERSITY OF JERUSALEM
The University of Sydney and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have 
established an agreement to encourage mutual visits by academic staff. 
Visits by post-doctoral fellows
and academic staff of the University of Sydney to the Hebrew University of 
Jerusalem will be considered for support from the Sir Zelman Cowen 
Universities Fund.
