NEWS
RESEARCH AND EDUCATION FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS
The Foundation is providing over 40 Fellowships to Fellows and Advanced
Trainees who are members of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
and its Faculties and Chapters in Australia and New Zealand. Please note,
The University of Sydney is not administering these Fellowships.

THE MEDICAL FOUNDATION - THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY - JESSIE ISABEL ALBERTI
BEQUEST PROGRAM GRANT 2004-2008
The Foundation is currently seeking Expressions of Interest for a program
of research in the clinical neurosciences and in the diseases of the
nervous system. The Program Grant will be for 5 years, commencing in 2004.
The Grant will consist of a one-line grant of A$200,000 pa, which will be
supplemented by A$100,000 pa for 5 years from University sources.

RESEARCH GRANTS
LAND & WATER AUSTRALIA GENERAL CALL FOR R&D PROPOSALS
Each year Land & Water call upon the Australian research community to
submit proposals on critical issues. Approximately $1.5M of funding is

WHITLEY LAING FOUNDATION RUFFORD SMALL GRANTS (FOR NATURE CONSERVATION)
The Foundation is awarding Rufford Small Grants to individuals or small
groups of up to £5,000. It is hoped that many recipients of Rufford Small
Grants will progress in their field and go on to apply for a main Whitley
Award.

HEREDITARY DISEASE FOUNDATION LIEBERMAN AWARD
The Foundation announces a special Lieberman Award funded for 2 years for
up to $75,000 per year, to catalyze innovative proposals leading to the
treatment and cure of Huntington's disease.

HEREDITARY DISEASE FOUNDATION RESEARCH GRANTS
The Foundation is offering Grants aimed to support projects that contribute
to understanding the basic defect in Huntington's disease. The maximum
award for research grants is $50,000. Grants are usually for one year with
a possibility of renewal.

The Academy invites applications from professional scientists to visit
Europe between 1 July 2004 and 30 June 2005 to collaborate with European
researchers. Successful applicants will receive a grant-in-aid of up to
A$9,500. The duration of the visit must be between 2 and 6 weeks.

AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCE SCIENTIFIC VISITS TO JAPAN
The Academy invites applications from professional scientists to visit
Japan between 1 July 2004 and 30 June 2005 to collaborate with researchers
in institutes affiliated with the Japan Society for the Promotion of
Science. Successful applicants will receive an economy class airfare of up
to A$1800 from Australia to the closest airport to the host institute in
Japan. Participants will be provided with allowances for living and
traveling in Japan. The duration of the visit must be between 14 and 42 days.

in those countries. Successful applicants will receive from the Academy a
