NEWS
LINKAGE - INFRASTRUCTURE EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES (LIEF) SCHEME 2003 FOR 
2004 FUNDING.
Application for the Linkage  Infrastructure Scheme Equipment and Facilities 
(LIEF) for 2004 funding is now open.
Application Forms and Guidelines are available on the ARC web site at:
http://www.arc.gov.au/ncgp/linkage/infrastructure/default.htm
As in previous years, applications have to be entered in GAMS. Your GAMS ID 
and Password are similar to the one you use for all ARC applications. If 
you have lost your password or ID, or need one, please email a request to 
Research at reschols.usyd.edu.au. Include your staff ID number and date of 
birth with your request.
For 2004 grants, the following timeline will apply:

February 2003 Linkage - Infrastructure Guidelines and Application Form 
posted on ARC web site.
10 March 2003 Expressions of intention to apply to reach the Research Office
17 March 2003 Research Office internal closing date. Mature applications 
are expected. Applications to be in final format by 24 April.
  18  20 March Applications checked for completeness and logged into RO 
control spreadsheet.
21 March RO dispatches applications and spreadsheet to Faculty Research 
Committee for broad evaluative comment.
1 April Faculty Research Committee comments returned to RO and comments 
noted on control spreadsheet.
4 April Updated spreadsheet and application forms sent to College PVCs for 
consideration.
14 April Meeting between PVC (Research) and College PVCs to finalise 
funding commitments.
17 April  Meeting with NSW PVC/DVC (Research) to discuss strategies and 
collaborative applications. To be coordinated by Professor Peter Bergquist.
24 April PVC (Research) and Manager RO to finalise applications for 
referral to ARC.
1 May Applications dispatched to ARC.
2 May ARC closing date.

Researchers should note that it is essential that any application made for 
which the University of Sydney is not the lead institution, must be copied 
to the Research Office. This is irrespective of whom in the university will 
fund the contribution to the lead institution. Researchers should also note 
that where collaboration is made with another institution there should be 
an agreement in writing about how the resources are going to be shared, 
should the application be successful.
The Research Office will bring to the attention of researchers any 
information that comes to hand which will assist in completing 
applications. As with Discovery  Project grants, if you are having problems 
downloading information for these grants please let us know so we can 
quickly resolve problems and alert other applicants.

THE NATIONAL OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMISSION (NOHSC) is 
undertaking a stocktake of current Australian OHS research. NOHSC has 
developed a web-based interface that allows researchers in OHS fields to 
contribute details of current (i.e. not yet completed) and recent (i.e. 
completed after June 2001) research to a national database. This database 
will then be made available on the NOHSC web site. Information about your 
research should be submitted to the NOHSC by Friday 8th March, 2003. For

RESEARCH GRANTS
D.E.S.T. INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY  AUSTRALIA-KOREA PILOT 
INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY COOPERATION FUND
The Fund is intended to support collaborative Research and Development 
projects that have a demonstrated commercial potential, including related 
product development and related market research activities, between 
Australian and Korean businesses.

D.E.S.T. INNOVATION ACCESS PROGRAMME  INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY 
COMPETITIVE GRANTS
Support is provided for Australian researchers who are undertaking 
strategically focused, leading-edge, collaborative research projects, 
alliances and workshops with international partners. It includes the 
European Union Framework Fund and also offers support for conferences for 
that can contribute to the goals of the programme.

THE CANCER COUNCIL NATIONAL (MULTI-STATE) RESEARCH PROJECT GRANTS
The Council is calling for applications that involve cancer research 
projects, with principal investigators from a minimum of two 
states/territories. These grants support multi-state research projects into 
all aspects of cancer, including its cause, mechanism, prevention, 
treatment, and care, and the organization and performance of cancer control 
services.
