SESQUI R&D AND NEW STAFF SUPPORT
The Sesqui Research & Development (R&D) Scheme and the Sesqui New Staff 
Support Scheme aim to support, on a competitive basis, high quality 
research projects that are likely to lead to external funding. In 2004 both 
Schemes are open to research in all fields. Applications to SESQUI R&D and 
New Staff Support for funding commencing in 2004 are now open.

SESQUI RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT GRANT MAJOR EQUIPMENT FUND 2004
Funding for major equipment will continue in 2004 as part of the 
University's Sesqui Research and Development Grant Scheme.  Each Faculty 
Research Committee may submit, through its Dean, applications for new and 
renewal items of major equipment.
Applications to the SESQUI R&D Major Equipment Fund for funding commencing 
in 2004 are now open.

SESQUI POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS 2004
The University of Sydney Postdoctoral Fellowships were established in 1996 
to support excellence in full-time research undertaken in any Department or 
School at the University. Successful applicants are expected to be based 
full-time at the University for the duration of the Fellowship. The 
University will be offering up to fifteen new Fellowships in 2004. 
Applications for SESQUI Postdoctoral Research Fellowships commencing in 
2004 are now open.

THE AUSTRALIAN PSYCHOLOGICAL SOCIETY LTD SEMINARS - SUPERVISION WORKSHOP
The APS (NSW DIPP) is conducting a workshop that facilitates the 
development of supervisors' skills.  It is suitable for people who 
currently supervise other professionals or are likely to supervise in the 
future.

TELSTRA FOUNDATION COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FUND
The Community Development Fund supports charitable organizations that 
assist or support Australian children and young people. Projects should 
focus on benefiting children and young people who are 18 years and under.

NSW DEPARTMENT FOR WOMEN WOMEN'S GRANTS PROGRAM  2003 LARGE GRANTS
Applications for funding under the Women's Grants Programs for 2003 are 
invited from eligible incorporated non-profit organisations. The Women's 
Grants Program is a key initiative to further the NSW Government's social 
justice objectives. The program focuses on those groups of women who have 
limited access to social and economic resources.  Large Grants range 
between $30,000 to $100,000.

NSW DEPARTMENT FOR WOMEN - 2003 PARTNERSHIP PROJECTS
Expressions of interest are sought from eligible organisations for the 
development of projects to be delivered in partnership with the NSW 
Department of Women. The maximum allocation for each project is $100,000. A 
limited number of project proposals will be short-listed for more detailed 
development.

CHIANG CHING-KUO FOUNDATION FOR INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARLY EXCHANGE - RESEARCH 
GRANTS FOR THE ASIAN/PACIFIC REGION
The Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation's grants provide support for Chinese 
Studies in the humanities and the social sciences and the Foundation 
encourages applications with matching funds from other sources. Research 
grants are usually given for no more than three years and should not exceed 
US$120,000 for a three-year period.

HEREDITARY DISEASE FOUNDATION GRANTS
The Foundation is offering Research Grants aimed to support projects that 
contribute to identifying and understanding the basic defect in 
Huntington's disease. The maximum award for research grants is $50,000.

HEREDITARY DISEASE FOUNDATION - LIEBERMAN AWARD
The Hereditary Disease Foundation has a special Lieberman Award, to 
catalyze innovative proposals leading to the treatment and cure of 
Huntington's disease. A Lieberman Award can be funded for 2 years for up to 
$75,000 per year. Areas of interest include trinucleotide expansions, 
animal models, gene therapy, neurobiology and development of the basal 
ganglia, cell survival and death, and intercellular signaling in striatal 
neurons.

FELLOWSHIP & AWARDS

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CLINICAL STUDIES (NICS) FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
NICS is offering a small number of fellowships for people who will lead the 
implementation of evidence in health care. The program will provide an 
opportunity for NICS' fellows to undertake relevant research and to develop 
the knowledge, skills and networks that will assist them in the leadership 
role in the use of evidence in clinical practice in Australia.

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR CANCER RESEARCH (AACR) RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
The purpose of the AACR Fellowships is to foster basic, translational, 
clinical, and prevention research by scientists at the beginning of their 
careers in the cancer field. The Fellowships are for US$30,000  US$35,000 
for one year.

GAIRDNER FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
The Gairdner Foundation is a non-profit corporation devoted to the 
recognition of outstanding achievement in biomedical research worldwide. An 
award of $30,000 CAD is payable in Canadian funds to individual winners 
from a diversity of fields for outstanding discoveries or contributions to 
medical science.

INTERNATIONAL AGENCY FOR RESEARCH ON CANCER (IARC)  POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
The IARC forms part of the World Health Organization (WHO) and houses its 
epidemiology and laboratory units in Lyons, France.  It is offering five 
postdoctoral fellowships to junior scientists under the age of 35 years to 
work in one of fifteen areas of cancer research.  The fellowships are 
tenable for one to three years with an annual stipend of FRF156,000.
