SESQUI

SESQUI R&D AND NEW STAFF SUPPORT
The Sesqui Research & Development (R&D) Scheme and the Sesqui New Staff 
Support Scheme aim to support, on a competitive basis, high quality 
research projects that are likely to lead to external funding. In 2004 both 
Schemes are open to research in all fields. Applications to SESQUI R&D and 
New Staff Support for funding commencing in 2004 are now open.

SESQUI RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT GRANT MAJOR EQUIPMENT FUND 2004
Funding for major equipment will continue in 2004 as part of the 
University’s Sesqui Research and Development Grant Scheme.  Each Faculty 
Research Committee may submit, through its Dean, applications for new and 
renewal items of major equipment.
Applications to the SESQUI R&D Major Equipment Fund for funding commencing 
in 2004 are now open.

SESQUI POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS 2004
The University of Sydney Postdoctoral Fellowships were established in 1996 
to support excellence in full-time research undertaken in any Department or 
School at the University. Successful applicants are expected to be based 
full-time at the University for the duration of the Fellowship. The 
University will be offering up to fifteen new Fellowships in 2004. 
Applications for SESQUI Postdoctoral Research Fellowships commencing in 
2004 are now open.

UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY CANCER RESEARCH FUND
The University of Sydney Cancer Research Fund aims to support, on a 
competitive basis, high quality research projects into cancer which will 
contribute to a better understanding of causes, improved treatment and 
enhanced survival and quality of life for cancer patients.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), in conjunction 
with the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) invites

ROYAL SOCIETY OF VICTORIA 2003 MEDALS
In its Centenary year (1959) The Royal Society of Victoria instituted a 
Medal for Scientific Research. The annual Award consists of a Silver Medal. 
This year the award will be awarded in the Category of Physical Sciences.

RADCLIFFE INSTITUTE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Radcliffe Institute fellowships are designed to support scholars, 
scientists, artists, and writers of exceptional promise and demonstrated 
accomplishment who wish to pursue work in academic and professional fields 
and in the creative arts. Stipends are funded up to $50,000 for one year 
with additional funds for project expenses.

AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCE AWARDS
The Australian Academy of Science are offering a variety of junior awards 
and senior awards for those researchers who have made major contributions 
over their working lives. The medals range between $1,000 to $5,000. They 
also support research conferences that focus on rapidly developing fields 
of research and travelling fellowships. The grants to be awarded range from 
$1,500 - $20,000.

RESEARCH GRANTS

ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION (USA) TARGET IDENTIFICATION IN LUPUS GRANT
The purpose of the Target Identification in Lupus (TIL) grants program is 
to fund highly meritorious and innovative research directed to the 
identification of targets for new therapies in the treatment of lupus. 
Grants are made for US$250,000 a year for two years with a possibility of 
renewal

AUSINDUSTRY BIOTECHNOLOGY INNOVATION FUND CALL FOR APPLICATIONS ROUND FIVE 
FUNDING
The Biotechnology Innovation Fund is a merit-based competitive grants 
program which aims to increase the rate of commercialisation of promising 
biotechnology developed in Australia. This program forms part of the $3 
billion Innovation Statement, Backing Australia's Ability, that underscores 
the Government's commitment to innovation.

INNOVATION ACCESS PROGRAM (IACCP) ROUND 2 FUNDING
The Innovation Access Program (IAccP) is a competitive program designed to 
foster innovation and competitiveness by increasing the take up of leading 
edge technologies and best practice processes by Australian firms, 
particularly SMEs. This IAccP - Industry is an initiative of the 
Commonwealth Governments $3 billion Innovation Statement, Backing

PERPETUAL TRUSTEES CHARITABLE PLANNING SERVICES
Perpetual Trustees manage a large number of Charitable Trusts and 
Foundations which provide modest funding for a wide range of charitable 
purposes including: research, education, health, social and community 
benefit, arts and culture, and the environment. Applicants must be 
tax-exempt organisations in Australia.

JAMES N KIRBY FOUNDATION GRANTS
The James N. Kirby Foundation’s goal is to distribute grants to charitable, 
educational and technical bodies throughout Australia in all areas of 
health, education, technology and science, art, literature and the 
conservation, maintenance and development of Australia’s natural resources. 
The minimum grant is $1,000 and the maximum grant is $100,000.

FELLOWSHIPS & AWARDS

THE AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF THE HUMANITIES - SPECIAL JOINT PROJECT FUNDING
The Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social 
Sciences in Australia, and the British Academy have launched a new scheme 
for the support of joint projects between Australian and British scholars. 
One award (of up to £8,000) for a project which covers both humanities and 
social sciences disciplines, or two awards (of up to £4,000 per project) 
will be available each year, to cover travel and maintenance expenses.

PROSTATE CANCER FOUNDATION OF AUSTRALIA TRAVEL GRANT
Applications are invited from young researchers for grants of up to
