ARC LINKAGE - AUSTRALIAN POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS (CSIRO)
The due date for eligibility exemption requests for ARC Linkage Australian
Postdoctoral Fellowships (CSIRO) applicants has been extended from Friday
13 September 3002 to Friday 20 September 2002. Requests must be lodged in
writing through Sydney University's Research Office. The eligibility
exemption request must include a statement justifying the applicant's
special circumstances for an eligibility exemption.
The ARC and the CSIRO have developed a collaborative co-funded program to
offer Australian Postdoctoral Fellowships. Fellowships are for three years
duration. These Linkage - Australian Postdoctoral Fellowships (CSIRO)
encourage enhanced collaboration between CSIRO and the Universities.
Applicants will be collaborative research teams, comprising one APD and at
least two Chief Investigators. One CI must come from a University and one
CI must come from the CSIRO. Projects should focus on one of the priority
areas of research.
Applications must be completed in the Grants Application Management System(
GAMS) (not yet available) and close with the Research Office on 11 October
2002.

AUSTRALIAN ACADEMY OF THE HUMANITIES
The Australian Academy of the Humanities announces the establishment of a
Workshop Program modelled on the one run by the Australian Academy of the
Social Sciences (http://www.assa.edu.au/Workshop/wp.htm ). The Academy
welcomes expressions of interest on particular themes, which should include
a list of participants.

MOTOR ACCIDENTS AUTHORITY YOUTH GRANTS SCHEME
This is advance notice that at the end of September the MAA will be calling
for grants for young people attached to relevant organizations to develop
their own road safety programmes. Each grant will be for $10,000. Further

AMERICAN HEALTH ASSISTANCE FOUNDATION ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE RESEARCH GRANTS
Applications are invited for both Standard Awards (to US$100,000 per year
for up to two years) and for Pilot Project Awards (to US$50,000 per year
for up to two years). Pilot Project grants are especially geared toward
junior scientists and established investigators who are new to the
Alzheimer's field. For junior investigators, up to US$25,000 per year may
be budgeted for salary, but no salary may be budgeted for established

AUSTRALIAN LUNG FOUNDATION LUDWIG ENGEL GRANT-IN-AID FOR PHYSIOLOGICAL
RESEARCH
Applications are invited for the Ludwig Engel Grant-in-Aid, valued at
$4,000 to assist research in respiratory physiology. For the purposes of
this Grant-in-aid, physiological research is the use of any methodologies,
directed towards the elucidation of organ function and its understanding in
a precise, quantitative manner. The funds may be used as a contribution
towards equipment, personnel, or other costs incurred in the conduct of
research projects.

REBECCA L COOPER MEDICAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION LTD - GRANTS
Grants will be available for research in the fields of Arthritis, Diabetes,
Geriatrics, Schizophrenia, Lung Disease (excluding Cancer) and in the
medical applications of Genetic Research. The value of each grant will be
between $6,000 and $16,000 and is preferably, but not exclusively, for
specific equipment.

Projects range in scope from theoretical and methodological overview
studies to analysis of national and sub-national trends, and studies
focussing on specific cities and regions. Proposals are sought for large
(up to $250,000), medium (up to $125,000) and small (up to $50,000) projects.

AUSTRALIAN LUNG FOUNDATION /BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE
PULMONARY DISEASE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
Boehringer Ingelheim proudly sponsors this Fellowship and invites medical
and science graduates who will be resident in Australia throughout the
period of the research programme to apply. The research must relate
specifically to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and be
completed by graduates who have completed, or are completing, advanced
training in respiratory medicine or higher degree by thesis in an area
directly relevant to respiratory medicine. The Fellowship is a 2-year
award, with a value of $41,000 per annum and is not normally tenable with
another fellowship or awarded to established independent investigators

Fellowship support is provided to promote and strengthen the discipline of

SIR ZELMAN COWEN UNIVERSITIES FUND FELLOWSHIPS IN SUPPORT OF ACADEMIC
EXCHANGE BETWEEN UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY & HEBREW UNIVERSITY OF JERUSALEM
The University of Sydney and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have
established an agreement to encourage mutual visits by academic staff.
Visits by post-doctoral fellows and academic staff of the University of
Sydney to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will be considered for
support. Applications for support are invited from all disciplines and will
be ranked on academic merit. Preference will be given to projects in the
area of Semitic Studies. It is expected that the visits will have a
specific academic purpose and that their duration will not exceed 2
semesters. Shorter visits are encouraged. The level of support will
normally include a return economy airfare and some contribution to living
