NHMRC
In December 2001, the Joint Health Systems Research Committee announced its
intention to establish the Collaborative Health Systems Research Grants
program, with a focus on Economic and Financing of Health as its first
priority research field. Updated information is now available on the NHMRC
website at http://www.nhmrc.gov.au/funding/callsyst.htm or
http://www.nhmrc.gov.au/new.htm

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION, TECHNOLOGY AND THE ARTS
This is advance notice of a call for funding submissions for research in
the field of sports anti-doping. Under the Backing Australia’s Sporting
Ability - A More Active Australia policy, there will be approximately
$700,000 available in the 2002-3 financial year for anti-doping research to
improve the analytical capability of detecting banned substances and doping
agents. An Anti-Doping Research Panel has been formed to coordinate the
allocation of anti-doping research funding and to monitor the progress of
funded projects. The Panel has recently identified two priority areas for
analytical anti-doping research in the current financial year:
1. Factors effecting the oxygen carrying capacity of blood; and
2. Factors regulating and enhancing growth.
The panel will shortly be seeking and considering applications for research
funding for these areas, although innovative proposals in other areas will
also be considered. We expect to receive advice on calls for submissions
within the next couple of weeks. Submissions will need to be returned to
the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts by
mid-October 2002.
