NSW MINISTRY FOR THE ARTS FELLOWSHIPS & AWARDS

The NSW Ministry for the Arts offers a number of fellowships and awards to 
writers, artists and scholars living in New South Wales.
The NSW Indigenous History Fellowship, valued at $20,000, is offered to 
assist in the research and production of a work on a subject of historical 
interest relating to NSW from an Aboriginal point of view. Entries close on 
3 May 2002.
NSW History Fellowship, valued at $20,000, is offered to assist in the 
research and production of a work on a subject of historical interest 
relating to NSW. Entries close on 17 May 2002.

RESEARCH GRANTS

QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT TREASURY - RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING RESEARCH GRANTS

As part of the Queensland Government's commitment to responsible gambling, 
a grants program for research into a range of gambling issues has been 
established. Proposals are invited in the following fields:
• Technical frameworks for harm minimisation in relation to venues or 
gambling products
• Behaviour of gamblers and problem gamblers in the development of 
responsible gambling measures, treatment programs and consumption patterns 
or behaviours
• Mechanisms that act to prevent people from developing more harmful 
behaviours and gambling related problems
• Evaluations of programs, regulations and industry action in relation to 
the achievement of stated aims and impacts on the industry or gamblers.

AUSTRALIAN BREWERS’ FOUNDATION ALCOHOL-RELATED MEDICAL RESEARCH GRANT SCHEME

The Australian Brewers’ Foundation has made available funds for 
alcohol-related research in 2003. Grants may be given to support research 
on the medical, social and public health aspects of moderate, hazardous or 
harmful alcohol consumption. Of special interest will be studies offered 
with respect to the health of Aboriginal populations. Grants are generally 
for one year, in the range of $25,000 to $35,000, although applications 
will be accepted in the range of $2,000 to $50,000.

IAN POTTER FOUNDATION GRANTS

The Foundation supports activities in the following six areas:- Education, 
Scientific and Medical Research, Health, Welfare, the Arts, and the 
Environment and Conservation. Applications for programs which cover more 
than one area are encouraged. The Foundation also provides a competitive 
small travel grants program to assist early career staff members to attend 
overseas conferences, pursue their research overseas, have the opportunity 
to gain further experience overseas or to meet their peers in the 
international scene. Grants are also made for conferences of international 
status to be held within Australia. Support is only given to assist with 
travel costs of an international key-note speaker at a conference.
