NSW MINISTRY FOR THE ARTS CULTURAL GRANTS PROGRAM

The NSW Government provides financial assistance for arts and cultural 
organizations through the Cultural Grants Program, administered by the 
Ministry for the Arts. The Programs and Funds include: Capital 
Infrastructure, Community Cultural Development, Dance, Indigenous Arts 
Fund, Literature and History, Museums, Music & Visual Arts and Crafts. 
There are various closing dates for these programs.

AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF CRIMINOLOGY
AUSTRALIAN CRIME AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION AWARDS FOR 2002

The awards are designed to reward best practice in the prevention or 
reduction of violence and other types of crime in Australia, to encourage 
public initiatives and to assist governments in identifying and developing 
practical projects which will reduce violence and
other types of crime in the community. Projects may address specific groups 
or specific problems. The project may be of any size; small projects 
involving local community groups are encouraged to apply. Anyone can 
nominate a project for the award, whether or not they are connected to the 
project. The monetary awards total $130,000.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY SEMINAR  7TH MAY 2002

The Business Liaison Office is running an Intellectual Property (IP) 
seminar from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Tuesday, May 7 2002, in collaboration 
with IP Australia. There will be input from a number of internal and 
external speakers.
Topics include a discussion of the revised IP Rule and participants will 
receive information about intellectual property identification and management.
This will contribute to the University’s compliance with the National 
Principles for IP Management for Publicly Funded Research.

RESEARCH GRANTS

NATIONAL ORGANISATION FOR RARE DISORDERS - NORD RESEARCH GRANTS FOR ADENOID 
CYSTIC CARCINOMA; FOR HALLERVORDEN-SPATZ SYNDROME & FOR MASTOCYTOSIS

NORD is accepting applications for one-year grants for clinical research 
studies related to the early detection, diagnosis, or treatment of patients 
with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, Hallervorden-Spatz Syndrome or Mastocytosis. 
The purpose of the NORD Research Grant Program is to encourage meritorious 
clinical studies designed to improve the diagnosis or therapy of rare 
“orphan” diseases. Grants will be awarded to academic researchers to 
initiate small clinical trials, the results of which could be used to 
obtain further funding. Grants not to exceed US$30,000 for one year will be 
awarded.

OPHTHALMIC RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA RESEARCH GRANTS

ORIA invites applications for grants for research in ophthalmology and 
related fields. Grants given over recent years have ranged from 
$13,500-$47,000. Grants will be available to ophthalmologists, trainee 
ophthalmologists or work being done in University Departments of 
Ophthalmology. The contribution to the project by the ophthalmologists 
involved should be substantial and detailed. Applications for grants are 
encouraged from new investigators.

AUSTRALIAN FISHERIES MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY - SOUTH EAST FISHERY RESEARCH 
COMMITTEE FUND

The South East Fishery Research Committee is calling for pre-proposals for 
the current round of funding. Priority areas of research have been listed 
and include: data collection and verification, fishery/stock assessments, 
ecosystem/environment, marine planning and socio-economic. Projects 
directed towards species-specific assessment needs usually make up a 
significant proportion of funded proposals. Further information is

CECILIA KILKEARY FOUNDATION SMALL AND MAJOR GRANTS

The Foundation invites applications for 2002-2003 Grants. To be considered 
projects must be carried out in Australia and fall into the following 
general categories:
·       Social Welfare.
·       Medical Welfare.
·       Medical Research.
There are two categories of grants: Small Project Grants - Up to $ 10,000 
and Major Project Grants - Up to $ 200,000 (spread over a maximum of three

RETINA AUSTRALIA RESEARCH GRANTS

Retina Australia invites applications for funding of high quality 
scientific/medical research
relevant to causes, treatments, prevention and cure of retinitis pigmentosa 
and other inherited
and age-related retinal dystrophies. Applications may be lodged with Retina 
Australia in
either of two ways:
·       in the form of an NHMRC research grant application which may be 
either a new application for NHMRC funding or a previously successful 
application that will receive continued NHMRC funding in the year for which 
Retina Australia funding is sought;
·       in the specified Retina Australia application format.
A project budget must not exceed $40,000.

AUSTRALIAN SPINAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION RESEARCH GRANTS

grants of $2,000 or more to support research concerning Chiropractic.

PFIZER AUSTRALIA CARDIOVASCULAR LIPID RESEARCH GRANTS

The CardioVascular Lipid Research Grants are awarded for the purpose of 
furthering clinical research in the fields of cardiovascular disease 
including stroke, lipid disorders and associated areas. Applications are 
invited from Australian medical graduates who have entered the field of 
research (or returned after an appropriate break) within the last five 
years. Funding for CVL Grants will be up to $55,000 per annum and will be 
awarded to cover part salaries, equipment, research materials and expenses.

FELLOWSHIPS & AWARDS

CANCER COUNCIL NSW CAREER DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP

The Cancer Council NSW invites applications for a 5-year Career Development 
Research Fellowship valued at $150,000 per annum. Applications are open to 
all research disciplines relevant to cancer including:
·       Behavioural
·       Biomedical
·       Clinical
·       Epidemiological
·       Health Services
·       Psychosocial
Applicants should carefully consult the eligibility criteria, nominate 
academic referees and ensure that referees forward their reports directly 
to the Cancer Council by the closing date.
