Subject: Greeting from an alum
Hi there Jake,
Jonathan Hirt here, an alum of the CPACS. You may or may not remember me, I graduated mid-2010. At any rate, I wanted to touch base on a couple of things and of course say hi! I had a really great experience during my masters program and have taken all that I learnt with me.
Since graduating, I have been working for a non-profit who works against modern slavery in San Francisco called Not For Sale <http://www.notforsalecampaign.org/> . Within Not For Sale I run an academic engagement and educational platform called the Academy <http://www.nfsacademy.org> . It is funny how life works out, I undertook the Masters of PCS program because I was interested in conflict resolution, in particular restorative justice. Now I'm working at a non-profit who works to transform one of the most widespread and pervasive and underground (physically/structurally/culturally) violent conflicts - modern-day slavery. All to say, the CPCS helped me get here, and for that I am extremely grateful!
Through the Academy we work to engage and equip activists (from students to retired law enforcement) with tools to work against human trafficking in their community. If you are interested, here <http://www.nfsacademy.org/courses/> is a description of some of the courses we facilitate. Apart from training, I am working to scale the academic communities overall engagement with the abolitionist movement. I am particularly interested in research and thinking that looks at developing and implementing transformative solutions. Towards this end, I have started a White Papers <http://www.nfsacademy.org/whitepapers> project. I'd love to get some contribution from Australian academics and postgrad students.
Anyway, it would be great if you could pass this onto anyone who you think might be interested. Of course the work would need to be orientated around human trafficking/modern slavery.
I hope all is well at CPCS! Please give my regards to all the faculty.
Jonathan Hirt, M.A.P.C.S.
